Before the tour began Jon asked what we were interested in seeing. As this was our first trip to Charleston, we were open to suggestions. Jon chose three main sites (the Citadel, Magnolia cemetery, and parts of the historic Charleston city center hear the harbor). He wove together historical events, interesting and stories, and helpful interpretation to bring the past and present alive. The cemetery visit focused on a few families and events and provided insight about a few prominent families and military events; we found it totally fascinating. Jon's experience in real estate was very helpful as he pointed out unusual aspects of several homes in the historic part of town. We were delighted with this private tour and would highly recommend it to others.

The enthusiasm and historical knowledge of Eric Lager, Ph.D. were remarkable. His love for his adopted city of Charleston was contagious. Dr. Lager chose historical events, architectural features and stories from the past that captivated our diverse group. The 3-hour tour included a notable breadth of information that also was in-depth. I can't wait for my next visit to Charleston to repeat the experience and would highly recommend this tour.

We learned so much of Charleston history on this tour. Jon was very knowledgeable & asked us before the tour of our interests. I would definitely recommend!

Mark is both an amazing human being as well as a tour guide...his company was most pleasurable and we felt our tour was complete and lacked nothing!

The advertisement shows a picture of a horse drawn carriage. Based on that, we booked this tour in particular. What you get is a Subaru SUV and a driver. The visitor center on Meeting St. never heard of the tour company and called them for us. Very disappointing since I promised my wife a carriage ride for this birthday trip to Charleston. The ad is deceptive. Period. The redeeming part was that Jon Batten, our driver was excellent and informative.

We do a lot of traveling and have gone on many tours. This tour, however is by far the best experience we’ve had. Jon, our guide was thoughtful, engaged, informed and very committed to showing us all the Charleston has to offer. We covered a lot of ground in a short time and feel that we learned a great deal about the City and its fine history. We enjoyed exploring the waterfront, historic homes, king street, rainbow row and other key parts of the city. We especially loved the time we spent at the citadel. As a former student and avid historical reader, Jon’s first hand knowledge of the campus, its traditions and its deep roots in our nations history was AMAZING! We highly recommend this tour!!!

Jon had wonderful insight and stories to tell throughout our tour. The viewing of the beautiful homes and the Citadel campus were enlightening . I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history that lines the streets of Charleston.

Mark was very accommodating with pickup and drop off locations. It was a great way to see a LOT of Charleston and to learn a bit of history. I would highly recommend this tour for those that walk long distances or struggle with heat. The air conditioned vehicle and cold water was very much appreciated.

The tour was exactly what we were hoping for. Jon was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the city and was able to make it come alive with both facts and insightful comments on historical figures and the unique architecture that was everywhere. I especially loved his personal memories of his days at the Citadel. He kept us completely entertained so that the time absolutely flew by. I was especially grateful for his immediate recognition of what my companion was really interested in and adjusting to meet her expectations. I cannot more highly recommend this tour and this tour guide.
