Hallstatt Charnel Housr
One of the most intriguing tourist attractions in Hallstatt is the charnel house, also known as the "Bone House," at St. Michael's Chapel, which is home to the oldest salt mine in the world and a picture-perfect panorama. Located close to the catholic parish church, the chapel has been around since the 12th century. Over 600 skulls that have been tastefully painted attract tourists from around the globe every year to appreciate the intriguing collection. A lot of the skull decorations date from the end of the 18th century, while others may even be from the 20th.

The museum is near the Hallstättersee and underneath the salt mines on the slope. The Dachstein Ice Cave, the salt mines, and the museum are all regarded as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
