We did this as a shore excursion from Melbourne. We had a full day available as we were trasniting via the spirit of tasmania, so we were able to squeeze in a 12 hour tour. This allowed us to cover much more in one day than if we were to have hired a car from the port and self-driven ourselves. Plus it took a lot of stress out of the day.

We were guided by James during our tour to the Great Ocean Road. James is really good at what he does, he is nothing short of amazing. During our guided trip, he helped us take superb photos and made our tour so enjoyable. He is punctual and also very knowledgeable. We would have missed a great deal if we have chosen to drive up on our own. We are glad that we have signed the tour with him and through that we have made a friend. We will recommend others to take up his tour if you are on the fence about it. The experience will make the difference to your holidays in Melbourne. We will be back during our next holiday visit to Melbourne! Thanks James. Enjoy the photos! :D

We booked this tour directly, as the private tours aboard our cruise ship were almost 3 times the price this company, and a seat on a bus for the 3 of us, was the same price as this tour. Our friends onboard were very jealous! But their jealousy was only to grow..... We were slightly nervous to begin with, as the meeting place confirmed to us seemed quite vague. But as promised, as soon as we exited the cruise terminal, there Our guide was, with a easy-to-read-sign, stood next to a sparkling clean car. And before any of our friends had even managed to set foot onto the bus, we were already in the car and on our way down towards the great ocean road! The tour was fast paced. They do a shorter tour if you think it might be too much, but we are an energetic bunch, and we wanted to see EVERYTHING! We bumped into our friends in Apollo Bay at our lunch stop, keen to share stories of all the things we had seen in the morning. They were not so keen - a late departure to their bus due to a few selfish individuals, crammed in the back of the bus, and the stops often dictated by the location of toilets - you get that with cruise passengers sadly. Can’t be helped. We on the other hand could stop as and when we wanted. The tour was at our own pace. So we left Apollo Bay, just as the rest of the bus was spilling out of the bus. Next, we were heading to the 12 Apostles, with lots of different stops in between. Strangely, their bus had arrived back at the ferry terminal before us, despite us leaving our lunch destination well before our friends. Well turns out while we were enjoying a rainforest walk, and a few other delights enroute to the 12 Apostles, they were being herded straight to the 12 Apostles and then straight back to the cruise ship. Wow! They missed so much :( When we got back, we decided to stay quiet and we just felt so guilty for having such an amazing day. So yes, if you are arriving by cruise ship, make sure you don’t join a shore excursion organised by the cruise line, especially not a bus tour! Take a private tour, and whoever you choose, I’d advise booking it prior to your cruise, as trying to get internet and book something mid-cruise is not easy.
