Stop At: Thracian tomb of Aleksandrovo, 6351 Aleksandrovo, Bulgaria
Take this journey back in time and visit one of the most massive Thracian tombs situated in the village of Aleksandrovo. Built in the 4th century BC, it is of immense importance for archaeologists since it preserves unique and rare examples of frescoes depicting hunting scenes. Learn about the artistic techniques hidden in these beautiful images and go beyond their meaning and symbolism by hearing the stories of your leader who is an art historian herself.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: City, Haskovo, Orfey, 6303 Orfey, Haskovo, Bulgaria
We continue to the city of Haskovo, where we will enjoy one of the best selections of food specialties from the region. Our hosts will introduce you to the mystics of Bulgarian culinary recipes. Before leaving the town, we cannot miss stopping by the tallest statue of Virgin Mary in the world - The Monument of the Holy Mother of God, rising above the city with its grandeur and majesty.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Arapovo Monastery, East of Asenovgrad 10km, Asenovgrad 4230 Bulgaria
On our back to Plovdiv, we stop by the beautiful Arapovo monastery – a repository for the notorious wonder-working icon of the Virgin Mary. The history of the monastery is unique since it is the only sanctuary constructed during the Ottoman times with no traces of previous existence. Another exciting aspect of the monastery is the incredible wall-paintings which break away from the canon of the church and depict the lives of saints and preachers in a completely different way.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Winery "Zagreus", ул. Иглика №30, 4282 Parvomay, Bulgaria
In the end, take your time and relax under the majestic atmosphere of one of the few truly Bulgarian wine cellars. The wine production coming from there forms the identity of the winery which focuses entirely on the Bulgarian grape called Mavrud. The Thracian valley is the only region in the country where Mavrud wine has flourished abundantly and its qualities – developed to its best. Enjoy this food for the soul and the calmness of the afternoon setting sun.
