Today was a day filled with uniquely Finnish experiences, a blend of heartwarming traditions, historical insights, and delightful culinary adventures. From meeting Santa Claus himself to delving into the local history and savoring the flavors of the region, it was a day that truly captured the essence of Ruka-Kuusamo.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Stefan's Steakhouse, Ruka. Maximilian and Sofia were excited, as they knew that today we would meet Santa. Stefan's Steakhouse is known for serving the best steaks in the north, and I was not disappointed. The stylish decor provided a modern and fresh atmosphere, perfect for setting the tone for a day of exploration and festive cheer.

A Visit to Santa’s Cottage

The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly our visit to Santa’s Cottage Ruka , Finland. The cottage is located a short drive from Ruka, nestled in a serene, snow-dusted landscape. As we approached, Sofia's eyes widened with anticipation. I must admit, even I felt a thrill of excitement. The path to the cottage was lined with twinkling lights, creating a magical ambiance that transported us to a winter wonderland.

We were greeted by Santa's elves, who led us to a cozy cabin where a warm fire crackled merrily. Sofia joined the other children in sledding down a gentle slope, their laughter echoing through the crisp air. Soon, it was time to meet Santa. He welcomed us into his home, a charming cottage filled with the scent of gingerbread and the soft glow of Christmas lights. Sofia was mesmerized as Santa shared stories of his life in Lapland, his reindeer, and his important work of spreading joy around the world. He even nominated Sofia as one of his little helpers, testing her elf skills with gingerbread baking and Christmas card making. It was a heartwarming experience that reminded me of the magic of childhood and the importance of preserving such traditions.

After our enchanting encounter with Santa, we drove to Kuusamo to visit the Kuusamo Local History Museum. I wanted Sofia to understand the history of the region and how people lived in the past. The museum offered a captivating glimpse into the cultural and historical richness of the area.

I was impressed by the wide selection of products, from smoked meats and berry jams to woolen sweaters and reindeer antler crafts.

It was the perfect place to find unique and meaningful mementos of our time in Ruka-Kuusamo.
