Day 10: Serenity, Views, and Electric Nights in Goa
Today was a day of contrasts, a perfect encapsulation of what makes Goa so special. We started with the quiet beauty of a secluded beach, ascended to panoramic views from a historic fort, and ended with the pulsating energy of Goan nightlife. It's hard to believe that tomorrow is our last day here; time really does fly when you're having fun.
Our morning began with a hearty breakfast at Gunpowder in Assagao. Priya had been eager to try this place, having heard about its authentic South Indian cuisine with a Goan twist. The restaurant was nestled in a charming old Goan-Portuguese house, complete with a beautiful courtyard. I must admit, the ambiance was fantastic. We savored some delicious dosas and uttapams, a refreshing change from the usual Goan and seafood restaurants we’ve been frequenting. Devon, of course, was more interested in the fresh lime soda, but he did enjoy the crispy dosas. I even managed to snap a few photos, hoping to capture the rustic charm of the place.
The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning, you didn't even think to ask.
After breakfast, we set off to explore Butterfly Beach. Getting there was quite an adventure! Since it’s not directly accessible by road, we took a boat from Palolem. The boat ride itself was scenic, with the coastline unfolding before us. As we approached Butterfly Beach, I could see why it was named so. Tucked away in a scenic cove in South Goa, it really felt like a hidden gem. The beach was relatively uncrowded, with golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Devon was thrilled to spot some colorful seashells, and Priya was content just soaking in the sun. I tried my hand at snorkeling, hoping to catch a glimpse of the marine life in the coral reefs just off the shore. I did spot a few colorful fish, but the current was a bit strong. The tranquility of the beach was a welcome change from the bustling markets and crowded beaches we had seen earlier in our trip.

For lunch, we decided to try Ratnasagar Family Restaurant & Bar. It was a family-friendly place with a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a midday meal. We ordered a mix of Goan and Indian dishes, including some delicious seafood and flavorful curries. Devon opted for his usual, butter chicken with naan. The food was satisfying, and the prices were reasonable. It was a great spot to refuel after our morning at the beach.
In the late afternoon, we drove to Cabo De Rama Viewpoint. The drive itself was scenic, with winding roads and lush greenery. As we reached the viewpoint, I was struck by the panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. The Cabo de Rama Fort stands atop a cliff, offering a glimpse into Goa's past. The fort has a rich history, having been occupied by various rulers over the centuries, including the Portuguese. We spent some time exploring the fort, taking in the breathtaking views and learning about its history. Devon was fascinated by the old cannons and the fort's architecture. Priya enjoyed capturing the scenic beauty with her camera. I couldn't help but imagine the battles that were fought here centuries ago. The fort was named after Lord Rama from the Ramayana, which added to its historical significance.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Sinq Night Club. Now, this was a complete change of pace! Located in Candolim, Sinq Night Club is known for its vibrant atmosphere and lively music. I must admit, I was a bit hesitant at first. I’m not exactly a night owl, but Priya and Devon were keen to experience Goan nightlife. The club was divided into different zones, including a poolside deck, a Goan tavern, and a nightclub. The music was a mix of EDM, house, and commercial hits, and the crowd was energetic and diverse. Devon was particularly excited about the dance floor, and Priya and I found ourselves tapping our feet to the music. We enjoyed some cocktails and snacks, and even managed to bust a few moves on the dance floor. It was a fun and memorable experience, and a great way to end the day.

Tomorrow is our last day in Goa, and we plan to make the most of it. We’re heading to the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in the morning, followed by a visit to the Museum of Goa, MOG. In the evening, we’re having dinner at Thalassa, a Greek taverna known for its stunning sunset views. I’m looking forward to a relaxing and memorable final day in this beautiful state. It’s been an incredible trip, filled with sun, sand, culture, and adventure. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share these experiences with my family, and I’m already looking forward to our next adventure.
As I sit here writing this, I can still feel the sand between my toes and hear the music from Sinq Night Club. Goa has a way of getting under your skin, and I know I’ll be back soon. For now, it’s time to rest and prepare for our final day in paradise.
One thing I've learned from this trip is that Goa is more than just beaches and parties. It’s a place of rich history, diverse culture, and warm hospitality. It's a place where you can find tranquility and adventure, all in the same day. And it’s a place that will always hold a special place in my heart.
And just a quick note: I really need to remember to pack a first-aid kit next time. A small cut on Devon's knee reminded me how important those essentials are. Also, snorkeling gear would have been great at Butterfly Beach! Live and learn, I guess.
