Enchanting Hoi An: A Day of Memories and Crafts
Today was another day to remember in Hoi An, filled with cultural immersion and delightful culinary experiences. The weather was warm, with a slight breeze, typical for October, making it perfect for exploring the town's attractions. I was eager to delve deeper into what makes this place so special, and today’s itinerary promised just that.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Le Petit Bistro Hoi An. I decided to treat myself to a delightful French breakfast. The pastries were flaky and buttery, and the coffee was strong and aromatic – a perfect start to fuel my adventures. It reminded me of the little bistros Lena and I visited in Paris years ago, a memory I hold dear. I savored every bite, knowing I had a full day ahead. Le Petit Bistro Hoi An brings a true taste of Europe to Vietnam. Known for its classic French and European comfort food, it's a favorite among locals and travelers.

With a satisfied stomach, I set off to Hoi An Memories Land. This theme park is a vibrant celebration of Vietnamese culture and history. The park itself is located on an island in the Thu Bon River, adding to its unique charm. I was immediately captivated by the colorful buildings and lively atmosphere.

I wandered through the park, taking in the various mini-shows and performances that were scattered throughout. Each show offered a glimpse into different aspects of Vietnamese culture, from traditional music and dance to historical reenactments. The main highlight was the Hoi An Memories Show, a spectacular outdoor performance that tells the story of Hoi An's rich history. The scale of the production was truly impressive, with hundreds of performers, elaborate costumes, and stunning visual effects. Although no photography was allowed during the main show, the memories are etched in my mind.
To truly understand a place, you must immerse yourself in its culture and traditions.
After the show, I decided to explore the handicrafts scene in Hoi An. I made my way to Hoi An Handicraft Tours, eager to learn about the local crafts. The workshop was a treasure trove of traditional Vietnamese crafts, from silk lanterns to intricate wood carvings.

I participated in a lantern-making class, where I learned the art of creating these beautiful symbols of Hoi An. The craftsman patiently guided me through the process, showing me how to stretch the silk over the bamboo frame and carefully glue it in place. It was a surprisingly challenging but rewarding experience. I chose a vibrant red silk, hoping it would bring good fortune, a common belief associated with lanterns.
With my self-made lantern in hand, I felt a sense of accomplishment and a deeper connection to the local culture. I even picked up a few smaller lanterns as gifts for Lena and Mateo, knowing they would appreciate the craftsmanship and vibrant colors. I can already imagine Mateo running around the house with his little lantern.
For lunch, I opted for something a bit different and headed to Cham Spa & Massage. While primarily known for its spa treatments, I had heard they also offered a delightful dining experience. I decided to try their lunch menu, which featured a mix of Vietnamese and international dishes. I settled on a light and refreshing Vietnamese salad, packed with fresh herbs and vegetables. It was the perfect midday meal, providing a healthy and flavorful boost to keep me going.

As the afternoon waned, I sought out a place to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures. I stumbled upon Woop Woop Bar, a cozy spot known for its relaxed atmosphere. It was the perfect place to escape the heat and crowds of the old town. I ordered a refreshing local beer and sat back, enjoying the laid-back vibe. The bar was a mix of locals and tourists, all enjoying the easygoing atmosphere.

For dinner, I chose Madam Kieu Vietnamese Restaurant, known for its authentic Vietnamese cuisine and charming ambiance. The restaurant was beautifully decorated in a traditional Vietnamese style, with lanterns and wooden furniture creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. From the restaurant's balcony, guests can enjoy unrivalled and panoramic views of the Thu Bon River as the boats glide along heralding the warm glow of the iconic Hoi An lanterns.

I decided to try some of the local specialties, including Cao Lau noodles and white rose dumplings. The flavors were incredible, a perfect blend of sweet, savory, and spicy. The Cao Lau noodles were particularly delicious, with a unique texture and a rich, flavorful broth. The shrimp and meat spring rolls were a delight. The grilled beef with leaves was also amazing. It was a truly memorable meal, and I left feeling completely satisfied.
As I walked back to my hotel, the streets of Hoi An were alive with activity. The night market was in full swing, with vendors selling everything from souvenirs to street food. The lanterns glowed softly, casting a magical light over the town. Hoi An was just so beautiful. I have enjoyed Hoi An immensely.
I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experiences I had today. From the cultural immersion at Hoi An Memories Land to the hands-on craft workshop and the delightful culinary journey, it was a day that truly captured the essence of Hoi An. And who knows, maybe I’ll even try my hand at making some shoes at the Friendly Shoe Shop!
Back at the Hoi An Historic Hotel, I brewed myself a cup of mate, a taste of home that always brings comfort. As I sipped the warm beverage, I reflected on the day's adventures, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such a vibrant and culturally rich place. I made a few notes in my travel journal, capturing the highlights of the day and the flavors of the dishes I had tasted.
