A Final Day of Burren Magic

As our family adventure in The Burren draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've shared. Today promised a blend of outdoor activity, stunning scenery, and, of course, delightful Irish cuisine. I was determined to make the most of our last day in this unique landscape.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at The Ivy Cottage in Doolin. The cozy atmosphere and the promise of a traditional Irish breakfast was the perfect start to our final day in the Burren. James and Eglė were excited about the day's plan: a horseback ride through the countryside. I savored the moment, knowing that these simple joys are what make our family trips so special. It felt like a proper send-off, fueling us for the adventures that awaited.

After breakfast, we made our way to An Sibin Riding Centre for our Galway Clare Burren Trail ride. The drive itself was picturesque, with the rolling green hills and stone walls that define this part of Ireland. Arriving at the stables, we were greeted by the friendly staff and introduced to our horses. Eglė, especially, was thrilled; she's always had a soft spot for animals, and the chance to ride through the Irish countryside was a dream come true for her.

The trail ride was nothing short of spectacular. As we trotted along the paths, we were surrounded by the unique beauty of The Burren. The limestone pavements stretched out before us, interspersed with patches of green grass and wildflowers. The views were simply breathtaking, and it felt like we were riding through a living postcard.

The beauty of The Burren lies not just in its landscapes, but in the way it connects you to the history and spirit of Ireland.

During our ride, we passed by Bothar nA hAillite, a coastal road known for its stunning cliffside views. We paused to take in the panoramic vistas of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the rugged coastline. The raw power and beauty of nature were on full display, and it was a moment of awe and wonder for all of us.

After our invigorating ride, we drove to Doolin for lunch at Gus O'Connor's Pub. This historic pub, established in 1832, is renowned for its traditional Irish music and hearty food. We settled into a cozy corner and ordered some classic pub fare. James, of course, opted for a pint of Guinness, while Eglė and I enjoyed some delicious seafood chowder.

The atmosphere in Gus O'Connor's was lively and welcoming. Traditional Irish music filled the air, and we couldn't help but tap our feet along to the rhythm. It was the perfect place to soak in the local culture and enjoy a taste of authentic Irish hospitality.

Following our satisfying lunch, we decided to indulge in some local delicacies at The Burren Smokehouse. This family-run business is known for its superb smoked salmon, trout, and mackerel. We sampled a variety of their products and were impressed by the quality and flavor. We picked up some smoked salmon to take back home with us, a delicious reminder of our time in The Burren.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Hylands Burren Hotel in Ballyvaughan for our final dinner. This charming hotel is a member of the Burren Food Trail, and its restaurant is known for its locally sourced dishes. We were seated in a cozy dining room and treated to a delicious meal featuring fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables.

The meal at Hylands Burren Hotel was a fitting end to our culinary journey through The Burren. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was impeccable. We savored each bite, knowing that this was our last taste of the region's unique cuisine for a while.

After dinner, we took a leisurely stroll through the village of Ballyvaughan, enjoying the peace and quiet of the evening. The stars were out in full force, and the air was crisp and clean. It was a perfect moment to reflect on our incredible adventure in The Burren.

As I sit here tonight, writing this blog post, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences we've had. The Burren has captured our hearts with its unique landscapes, rich history, and warm hospitality. I know that we will cherish these memories for years to come.

Tomorrow, we begin our journey back home. While I am sad to leave this beautiful place, I am also excited to return to Toronto and share our stories with friends and family. The Burren has left an indelible mark on our souls, and I know that we will carry its magic with us wherever we go.

Thank you, The Burren, for an unforgettable family adventure. Until next time!

Looking ahead, there are no specific itinerary items for tomorrow, as our trip concludes. It's time to head back to Toronto, filled with memories of the Irish countryside.

The journey back will be a time for reflection on all the incredible sights and experiences we've shared as a family. From the rugged coastline to the charming villages, The Burren has offered us a unique glimpse into the heart of Ireland. I'm already looking forward to planning our next adventure, wherever that may be. Perhaps we'll explore more of Ireland, or maybe we'll venture to a new corner of the world. The possibilities are endless, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

For now, though, it's time to say goodbye to The Burren and cherish the memories we've made. Goodnight, Ireland, and thank you for everything.
