Seville's Symphony of Sights

Ah, Seville! Today was a day of pure enchantment, a vibrant tapestry woven with stunning architecture, lush gardens, and the echoes of history. I felt like I was wandering through a dream, every corner revealing a new delight. The city's charm is simply irresistible, and I can't wait to share all the magical moments with you.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at La Bartola. It was a small, bustling place, and we had to wait a bit, but it was more than worth it. The atmosphere was buzzing with locals and tourists alike, all eager to start their day with some delicious tapas. I opted for the *la Bartola*-style anchovies, and Klaus chose the gazpacho. Sofia, ever adventurous, tried the croquettes of the day. Each dish was a burst of flavour, a perfect introduction to the culinary delights of Seville. It's funny, I remember when I first moved to Germany, I missed the vibrant, lively food markets of Azrou. But Seville, with its bustling tapas bars, reminds me so much of home!

After breakfast, we made our way to the Plaza de España, and oh, what a sight it was! The sheer grandeur of the place took my breath away. The vibrant colours, the intricate tile work, the majestic fountain – it was like stepping into a postcard. Sofia was immediately captivated by the plaza's vastness, running around with glee. I remembered reading that the Plaza de España was built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, and you could really feel the history and ambition woven into every brick and tile. We rented a rowboat and glided along the canal, the gentle rocking and the stunning views creating a moment of perfect serenity. It reminded me of the small boats we used to take out on the river near Azrou, so peaceful and calming. Klaus, despite his initial hesitation, even managed a few smiles!

Next, we strolled through the Parque de María Luisa, a welcome escape from the midday sun. The park was a lush oasis, a maze of shady pathways, bubbling fountains, and vibrant flowerbeds. Sofia was thrilled to discover a playground, where she happily spent an hour swinging and sliding. I took the opportunity to simply sit and soak in the atmosphere, watching families picnicking, couples strolling hand-in-hand, and children playing. It was a scene of pure, unadulterated joy, a reminder of the simple pleasures in life. The air was filled with the sweet scent of orange blossoms, a smell that always reminds me of spring in Morocco. We even saw some bright green parakeets hiding in the trees!

Lunch was at Az-Zait restaurante, a Michelin-recommended spot that promised a modern twist on traditional Spanish cuisine. The restaurant was a bit outside the historic center, but it was well worth the trip. We opted for the tasting menu, a culinary journey that took us through a range of exquisite dishes. From the slow-cooked egg to the roasted suckling pig, each course was a work of art, a testament to the chef's creativity and passion. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance was elegant yet unpretentious. It was a meal to remember, a true celebration of Sevillian gastronomy. I must admit, I sometimes miss the simple, hearty tagines of my childhood, but this was a delightful change of pace.

In the afternoon, we visited the Casa de Pilatos, a stunning palace that blended Gothic, Mudejar, and Renaissance styles. The palace was a feast for the eyes, with its intricate courtyards, ornate fountains, and exquisite tile work. Sofia was fascinated by the statues and sculptures, while Klaus was engrossed in the palace's history. I was particularly struck by the blend of architectural styles, a reflection of Seville's rich and diverse cultural heritage. It was like walking through a living museum, each room telling a story of the past. I learned that the palace is considered a prototype of a Sevillian palace, and I could see why. It was a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship.

As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves at Pura Vida Terraza, a rooftop bar with stunning views of the city. We sipped on cocktails as we watched the sunset, the sky ablaze with vibrant colours. Sofia, tired but happy, snuggled up next to me, her eyes wide with wonder. The atmosphere was relaxed and bohemian, with live music adding to the ambiance. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day, a moment of pure bliss. I couldn't help but feel grateful for this opportunity to share this experience with my family, to create memories that would last a lifetime.

The warmth of the Andalusian sun, the beauty of the architecture, the delicious food, and the infectious energy of the city – Seville had cast its spell on me. It was a day of discovery and delight, a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world. As we headed back to Hotel Rey Alfonso X, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for what tomorrow would bring. We're planning to visit the Archivo de Indias, Torre del Oro, and the Triana neighbourhood. I am particularly excited about visiting Triana, as I heard so much about its vibrant culture and the ceramics.

Before drifting off to sleep, I thought about how Seville, like Bonn, is a city that reveals its charms slowly. It's not about grand gestures or flashy attractions, but about the small moments of beauty and connection that you discover along the way. And just like Bonn, Seville has a way of making you feel at home, no matter where you come from.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Archivo de Indias, Torre del Oro, and the vibrant Triana neighborhood. I'm particularly excited about Triana, known for its ceramics and lively atmosphere. I'm also hoping to find a little something at Ceramica Santa Cruz to bring back home, a small reminder of our time in this magical city.

Until then, *beslama* from Seville!
