Embracing the Tramuntana: A Day of Discovery

Today marked the beginning of our family adventure in the Serra de Tramuntana, and what a start it was! From panoramic viewpoints that stole our breath to a serene exploration of organic farming and a step back in time at the home of a literary giant, the day was filled with experiences that resonated with each of us. It felt like the perfect introduction to the soul of Mallorca, blending natural beauty with cultural richness.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Es Pi Restaurant. The restaurant offered not just food, but an experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the setting, nestled in the mountains with views of the sea, was simply magical. Aisha and Malik enjoyed their fresh pastries, while Klaus and I savored the local cheeses and olives. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration.

Mirador de Es Colomer: A View to Remember

Our first stop was the Mirador de Es Colomer, and as we approached, the anticipation built with every twist and turn of the road. As we stepped out of the car, the view unfolded before us in all its glory. The turquoise waters of the Mediterranean stretched out to the horizon, meeting the dramatic coastline dotted with rocky outcrops and lush greenery. The children were captivated, pointing out the different rock formations and the boats sailing in the distance. I felt a sense of awe, a reminder of the sheer beauty and power of nature. It was a moment I knew we would all cherish.

The viewpoint was bustling with fellow travelers, each equally mesmerized by the panorama. We walked along the paved paths, taking in the different perspectives, and I snapped ছবি of the family against the stunning backdrop. Malik, ever the adventurer, wanted to climb every rock he could find, while Aisha was content to sit and sketch the scene in her notebook. Even Klaus, who usually prefers cityscapes, was visibly impressed.

The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.

Ecovinyassa: An Orchard of Delights

Next on our itinerary was Ecovinyassa, an organic citrus farm nestled at the base of the Serra de Alfabia. As we drove through the winding roads, the landscape transformed into a sea of green, dotted with vibrant oranges and lemons. The air was filled with the sweet scent of citrus blossoms, a refreshing change from the city air of Bonn.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner, who warmly welcomed us and explained the farm's commitment to organic farming practices. We embarked on a self-guided tour through the orange groves, learning about the different varieties of citrus fruits grown on the farm. The children were fascinated by the peacocks and chickens roaming freely among the trees. Aisha, always curious about nature, peppered the owner with questions about the growing process, while Malik was more interested in tasting the fruits.

The tour culminated in a delightful tasting session, where we sampled freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jams, and local almonds. The juice was incredibly refreshing, bursting with the flavors of sun-ripened oranges. The children devoured the jam, slathering it on slices of bread with gusto. It was a simple pleasure, but one that we all savored.

La Casa de Robert Graves: A Literary Pilgrimage

Our final stop for the day was La Casa de Robert Graves, the former home of the renowned poet and author in the charming village of Deià. As a lover of literature, I had long been eager to visit this place, to walk in the footsteps of a writer whose words have touched so many.

The house, nestled amidst terraced olive groves, exuded a sense of tranquility and history. We began our visit with a short film about Robert Graves' life, which provided a fascinating glimpse into his world. We then wandered through the rooms of the house, each filled with personal artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs that chronicled his life and work.

I was particularly moved by Graves' study, where he penned so many of his famous works. Standing there, surrounded by his books and papers, I felt a connection to him, a sense of shared passion for the written word. Aisha and Malik, though not as familiar with Graves' work, were intrigued by the old typewriter and the various objects scattered around the room.

We explored the garden, which was beautifully maintained and offered stunning views of the Tramuntana mountains and the coastline. It was easy to imagine Graves finding inspiration in this serene setting, surrounded by nature's beauty. The children enjoyed running around the garden, discovering hidden corners and secret pathways.

Valldemossa Secrets: A Little Retail Therapy

Before heading to dinner, we stopped by Valldemossa Secrets, a charming shop in Valldemossa. It wasn't your typical souvenir shop; instead, it was filled with original gifts and local handicrafts. Aisha was immediately drawn to the dolls and puppets, while Malik admired the ornaments made from olive wood. Klaus and I browsed the collection of teapots and leather goods, eventually settling on a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl to take home as a memento of our trip.

Ca's Patró March: A Seafood Feast with a View

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Ca's Patró March, a restaurant perched on the rocky Cala Deià. The drive down to the cala was an adventure in itself, with narrow, winding roads that offered breathtaking views of the coastline.

The restaurant was even more stunning in person than the pictures I had seen. It was perched precariously on the cliffside, overlooking the crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, with the sound of waves crashing against the rocks below.

We were lucky enough to get a table right by the water, and the views were simply mesmerizing. The children were thrilled to watch the fish swimming in the sea below, while Klaus and I marveled at the beauty of the sunset.

We feasted on fresh seafood, savoring the flavors of the Mediterranean. The prawn salad was a particular hit, as was the grilled sea bass. Even Malik, who can be a picky eater, devoured the calamari. The service was excellent, and the staff made us feel welcome and at home.

As we finished our meal, the stars began to appear in the sky, creating a magical ambiance. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day, a moment of shared joy and connection that I knew we would all remember fondly.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Santuari de Lluc, Torre del Verger, and Jardí Botànic de Sóller. I'm particularly excited about the Santuari de Lluc, as I've heard it's a place of great spiritual significance. I'm also looking forward to visiting the Jardí Botànic de Sóller, as I have a passion for gardening and am eager to see the local flora. We'll end the day with a drink at Cafè del Boulevard. It promises to be another day filled with adventure and discovery.

“Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.”

As I reflect on our first day in the Serra de Tramuntana, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and excitement. This region is truly special, a place where natural beauty and cultural richness intertwine to create an unforgettable experience. I am so grateful to be sharing this adventure with my family, creating memories that will last a lifetime. This journey is more than just a vacation; it's a chance for us to connect with each other and with the world around us. And as we continue our exploration of the Serra de Tramuntana, I know that there are many more wonders waiting to be discovered.
