Adios, Serra de Tramuntana!

As our family adventure in the Serra de Tramuntana draws to a close, I find myself filled with a bittersweet mix of emotions. While I am eager to return to our cozy home in Bonn, a part of me wishes we could linger a little longer in this Mediterranean paradise. Today, we are determined to soak up every last bit of the island's beauty, culture, and flavors before we bid adieu.

Our final day began with a delightful breakfast at Sa Clastra. The hotel was nestled in the charming village of Es Capdellà, and the restaurant promised an exceptional dining experience. Chef Jordi Cantó showcases the best of Mallorcan cuisine with a contemporary twist. The smart serving staff delivered each course to the table, and presentation and taste exceeded our expectations. I opted for the 'Variat Mallorquí', but with a difference, as they say ! It was a delightful start to the day, setting the perfect tone for our last adventures here. Klaus enjoyed a traditional German-style breakfast. Aisha and Malik were thrilled with their pastries.

With our stomachs full and our spirits high, we set off to experience the Grans vistes a la Serra de Tramuntana. The panoramic views were simply breathtaking, stretching across the rugged coastline and the verdant valleys. It was a moment to pause and truly appreciate the natural beauty that this region has to offer. I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to share these vistas with my family. The kids were especially excited, pointing out different landmarks and trying to spot familiar villages we had visited throughout the week.

The beauty of Serra de Tramuntana is not just in its landscapes, but in the memories, it etches in your heart.

Next on our itinerary was Cala Carbó, a small, secluded cove known for its tranquility and crystal-clear waters. The drive there was an adventure in itself, winding through narrow roads with stunning views at every turn. When we arrived, the beach was even more enchanting than we had imagined. Aisha and Malik immediately ran towards the water, eager to take one last swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Klaus and I found a cozy spot on the sand, soaking up the sun and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. We spent a couple of hours swimming, sunbathing, and simply relaxing, savoring the last moments of our beach vacation. According to some reviews, there is a super bar/restaurant with loungers and sunbeds available. The restaurant offers a simple menu of burgers, bocadillos, sandwiches, and all the usual drinks.

For lunch, we ventured to Es Verger, a rustic restaurant known for its authentic Mallorcan cuisine and stunning mountain views. The drive up to the restaurant was quite an experience, with narrow and bumpy roads that tested Klaus's driving skills. However, the views along the way were well worth the effort. Es Verger is famous for its slow-cooked lamb, roasted in a century-old oven. We ordered the cordero, cabrito, lechón, caracoles, padrón, and their uniquely delicious pan con aioli. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the side dishes were equally delicious. Aisha and Malik were particularly fond of the 'pan con aioli', a local specialty that quickly became a family favorite. The desserts were simply unforgettable. The cardinal, lovingly made by Tomeu's mother, and the homemade crema catalana are must-tries.

After such a hearty lunch, a bit of shopping was in order! We made our way to Dream Boutique in Peguera. I was looking for a few unique souvenirs to bring back home, and Aisha was on the hunt for a special dress. The boutique was a treasure trove of fashion, featuring everything from casual beachwear to elegant formal dresses. I found a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl that will remind me of the vibrant colors of Mallorca. Aisha, after much deliberation, chose a lovely sundress with a floral print. Malik, of course, gravitated towards the toy section and picked out a small wooden sailboat.

Our final stop of the day was Finca Planícia, a sprawling estate owned by the Balearic Government. As we explored the grounds, we were struck by the beauty and tranquility of the landscape. The farmstead has been owned by the Balearic Government since February 17, 2009. Planícia is located in southwest Mallorca and its 445 hectares make up 25 percent of all the land in the municipality of Banyalbufar. Its terrain ranges from rugged coastlines to the peak of Sa Mola de Planícia Mountain (934 m) and its natural treasures include groves of Holm oak and pine trees and associated fauna. We wandered through groves of ancient olive trees, admired the traditional architecture of the farm buildings, and enjoyed panoramic views of the coastline. It was a perfect way to reflect on our journey and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the Serra de Tramuntana. The kids enjoyed spotting different birds and insects, turning our walk into a mini-wildlife expedition.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Restaurant la tramuntana for our farewell dinner. The restaurant is known for its excellent value for money, diverse options, and delicious homemade food. We started with a selection of tapas, including patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, and croquetas. For our main courses, Klaus ordered the paella, Aisha chose the grilled chicken, and Malik opted for his favorite, spaghetti bolognese. I decided to try the local fish, which was fresh and flavorful. The service was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. To end our meal, we shared a decadent chocolate cake, savoring every last bite.

Back at our cozy accommodation, as I sit down to write this final blog post, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences we have shared as a family in the Serra de Tramuntana. From the stunning landscapes to the charming villages and the delicious cuisine, this region has captured our hearts and created memories that will last a lifetime.

Tomorrow, we will begin our journey back to Bonn, carrying with us the warmth of the Mediterranean sun and the spirit of the Balearic Islands. While I am excited to return to our familiar routines, I know that a part of me will always remain in the Serra de Tramuntana. Until next time, adios and auf wiedersehen!

Our trip has come to an end, and there is no itinerary for tomorrow.
