First Impressions: Chapada Diamantina's Embrace

Touching down in Lençóis felt like stepping into a dream. The air was warm, carrying the scent of earth and adventure. After settling in, I decided to embrace the spontaneity of solo travel and let the day unfold naturally. What I discovered was a blend of stunning vistas, delicious local cuisine, and the welcoming spirit of the Chapada Diamantina.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. Fuelled up for the adventures ahead, I savoured the local flavours, a delicious start to my Brazilian journey. The restaurant had such a welcoming atmosphere, and I could tell that the chef, Katiana Alves, puts her heart and soul into every dish she creates. It reminded me of the hearty meals Hans makes back in Bamberg, filling our home with warmth and delicious aromas.

With a full stomach and a sense of excitement, I set off to explore the iconic Morro do Pai Inácio. The drive itself was a treat, with the landscape unfolding in panoramic views at every turn. October in Chapada Diamantina means warm weather, with highs around 32°C (90°F), and the sun was definitely making its presence known. I was grateful I'd packed light clothing, though I did mentally scold myself for forgetting the sunscreen! I made a note to pick some up tomorrow when I’m at Empório Chapada Diamantina.

As I ascended Morro do Pai Inácio, I couldn't help but think about the legend behind its name, a tale of love and defiance. The climb was moderate, and the views kept getting better with every step. Reaching the top, I was greeted by a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Chapada Diamantina. The vastness of the landscape, with its table mountains and distant plateaus, was simply awe-inspiring. I could see why this spot is considered a classic postcard shot of the region.
Sometimes, the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn't mean to take.

The sun began its descent, painting the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a mesmerizing display of nature's artistry, and I felt incredibly grateful to witness it. Looking out, I could spot the Morro do Camelo, Morrão, and the Three Brothers, each adding to the dramatic skyline. I took some photos, trying to capture the magic of the moment, but I knew that no image could truly do it justice. It was a moment to be savoured, etched in my memory forever.

After the sunset, I decided to check out Catingueiro Brew Pub for a taste of the local nightlife. It was a great way to unwind after a day of exploring. I enjoyed a refreshing local beer, chatting with some fellow travellers and locals. The pub had a lively atmosphere, and I felt a sense of camaraderie with everyone there. It reminded me of Hans and his brewery back in Bamberg, a place where people come together to enjoy good company and handcrafted beer. I made a mental note to bring him back a bottle or two.

As I reflect on my first day, I am filled with excitement for what lies ahead. Tomorrow, I plan to visit Cachoeira da Fumaça, one of the highest waterfalls in Brazil, and explore Ribeirão do Meio, a natural water slide carved into the rocks. I'm also looking forward to stocking up on essentials at Empório Chapada Diamantina.

Chapada Diamantina has already captured my heart with its raw beauty and warm hospitality. I can't wait to delve deeper into its hidden gems and share my experiences with you all. This solo adventure is off to an incredible start, and I know that the days to come will be filled with even more wonder and discovery.

Until tomorrow!

P.S. I really need to remember that sunscreen tomorrow!
