Today was a day of reaching new heights, both literally and figuratively, here in Zao Onsen. From visiting a serene temple to soaring above the mountains on a ropeway, and indulging in some truly delicious local cuisine, it was an experience that touched both the soul and the senses. Pieter and I embraced every moment, finding beauty and tranquility in the heart of Japan's stunning landscapes.

The morning began with a traditional Japanese breakfast at Omiya Ryokan, a delightful start that fueled us for the day's adventures. I always appreciate how these meals set the tone for a day of cultural immersion. It's funny, I almost forgot my sunscreen this morning, but Pieter reminded me before we headed out – a small detail, but essential for a day in the sun! I am really glad he is here with me to make sure I don't forget the essentials.

After our aerial adventure, our stomachs started to rumble, so we headed to Jupeer for lunch. This restaurant, located in a sports complex, had a lively and energetic vibe. We opted for some local specialties, hearty dishes that were both satisfying and delicious. Pieter went for a traditional Japanese dish, while I decided to try a vegan option, curious to see how they would adapt local flavors. Both meals were fantastic, and the atmosphere was buzzing with activity. It was a perfect spot to refuel and recharge after our morning explorations. With renewed energy, we decided to do some shopping. Our destination was the ROSSIGNOL STORE, a well-known outdoor gear shop. Although it's the summer season and not ski season, it was interesting to see the range of equipment and apparel they had on offer. I was particularly interested in their sustainable clothing options, made from recycled materials. Pieter, on the other hand, was fascinated by the skis and snowboards, already dreaming of winter adventures. We ended up buying a couple of souvenirs, small mementos to remind us of our time in Zao Onsen.

As evening approached, we made our way to stand MY for dinner. This inviting snack bar had a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for winding down after a busy day. The menu was diverse, blending Japanese cuisine with international flavors. We shared a few small plates, savoring each bite and enjoying the laid-back ambiance. The staff were incredibly friendly, offering recommendations and sharing stories about the local area. It felt like a truly authentic experience, a chance to connect with the heart and soul of Zao Onsen. Reflecting on the day, I realized how much we had packed into a single day. Pieter and I shared our favorite moments over a cup of green tea back at the ryokan, already looking forward to what tomorrow would bring. Tomorrow, we plan to visit Zao Onsen Yutabiya TAKAYUDO and the Zaō Fox Village, which I am very excited about. I have heard wonderful things about the fox village, and I am looking forward to seeing those adorable creatures up close. I am also looking forward to relaxing in the hot springs at TAKAYUDO, which I am sure will be a perfect way to end the day. It's these experiences that make travel so enriching, a chance to learn, grow, and connect with the world around us. And to share it all with Pieter makes it even more special.
