Diamonds and Daring Drops

Today was a day of embracing the raw, untamed beauty of Chapada Diamantina. I set out with a heart full of anticipation, ready to witness nature's grandeur and capture it through my lens. It's days like these that remind me why I traded the structured life in Berlin for the unpredictable path of a travel blogger. The freedom to explore, to discover, and to share these experiences is a treasure I wouldn't trade for anything.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. Fuelled up with local delicacies, I prepared for the adventures that lay ahead. This charming spot is becoming my go-to for starting the day right, a taste of Brazil to kickstart my explorations.

First on the itinerary was Pedra do Diamante. The name itself conjured images of hidden treasures and sparkling gems. While I didn't find any literal diamonds, the experience was rich in its own way. The hike to get there was invigorating, the landscape unfolding with each step. The panoramic views from Pedra do Diamante were simply breathtaking. I could see the vast expanse of the park, the plateaus stretching out like ancient mesas, and the sky above, a canvas of blue dotted with fluffy white clouds. I spent a good hour there, just soaking it all in, taking photos, and etching the scene into my memory.

Sometimes, the most precious gems are not found in the earth, but in the experiences that shape us.

Next up was Cachoeira Ferro Doido, a name that translates to 'Crazy Iron Waterfall'. And crazy it was! The journey to the waterfall took me through winding roads and past small farms. As I got closer, I could hear the thunderous roar of the water, a symphony of nature's power. The falls themselves are a sight to behold. Four distinct cascades plunge into a deep canyon, creating a spectacle of water and mist. The vibrant green vegetation clinging to the canyon walls added to the dramatic scene. I took my time here, exploring the different viewpoints and capturing the falls from every angle. The sheer force of the water was mesmerizing, and I felt a sense of awe and respect for nature's might.

After a day of hiking and chasing waterfalls, I was ready for a bit of relaxation. I decided to check out Budha Bar in Vale do Capão. It's a local spot known for its laid-back atmosphere and good vibes. I settled in with a cold drink, enjoying the music and the company of fellow travelers. It was the perfect way to wind down after an exhilarating day.

Dinner was back at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. There's something comforting about returning to a familiar place after a day of exploration. I savored the local cuisine, reflecting on the day's adventures and planning for the next. It's amazing how food can connect you to a place and its people.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself thinking about tomorrow's itinerary. I'm planning to visit Roncador and Cachoeira do Samuel. I've heard great things about both, and I'm excited to see what they have to offer. I might also check out Artesanato Natureza Criativa, a local shop, to pick up some souvenirs.

Chapada Diamantina continues to surprise and inspire me. It's a place where nature reigns supreme, where adventure awaits around every corner, and where the simple act of exploration can fill you with a sense of wonder. As I drift off to sleep, I'm already dreaming of the next adventure, the next waterfall, the next hidden gem waiting to be discovered. I feel so grateful for this journey and for the opportunity to share it with you all. Goodnight from Brazil!

P.S. I really need to remember to buy some sunscreen. My Puerto Rican skin is definitely feeling the Brazilian sun, even in May! And a first-aid kit would be a good idea too, just in case my adventurous spirit leads me into a scrape or two.

It's funny, I was reading about the history of diamond mining in Chapada Diamantina. Did you know that in the 19th century, Bahia was the largest producer of diamonds in the world? They even found a massive carbonado diamond, one of the largest ever discovered, right here in this region. It makes you wonder what other treasures are hidden in these hills!
