Finding Paradise in Primavera and Mixila
Today was all about immersing myself in the natural beauty of Chapada Diamantina, a day filled with the soothing sounds of cascading water and the vibrant flavors of local Brazilian cuisine. It's days like these that remind me why I traded the predictable comfort of Berlin for the unpredictable allure of solo travel. I'm learning to embrace the unexpected and find joy in the simplest of moments, and today was a perfect example of that.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. It’s quickly becoming my go-to spot here in Lençóis. The energy of Katiana Alves, the chef, is infectious, and her commitment to using local ingredients is truly inspiring. I opted for a traditional Brazilian breakfast – a strong coffee, fresh fruit, and some pão de queijo. Fuelled up, I was ready to tackle the day's adventures.
First on the agenda was Cachoeira da Primavera. The trail to the waterfall was an easy walk through the Parque Municipal da Muritiba. The park itself is a gem, so close to the historical center of Lençóis, yet a world away in terms of tranquility. The path wound through lush vegetation, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and flowering trees. I made sure to pay the R$ 20 entrance fee for the park, and was happy to know it helped support the local environment.
As I approached Cachoeira da Primavera, the sound of rushing water grew louder, and the anticipation built. The waterfall itself is not massive, but it has a certain charm that's hard to resist. The water cascades down a series of rocks, creating natural pools that are perfect for a refreshing dip. I spent a good hour there, letting the cool water massage my shoulders and simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. Surrounded by lush greenery and the gentle sounds of nature, I felt a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It was a perfect moment of solitude and reflection.

Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found not in conquering mountains, but in surrendering to the simple beauty of a waterfall.
Next up was Cachoeira Mixila. This waterfall required a bit more effort to reach, but the reward was well worth it. The trail wound through more rugged terrain, with some steep climbs and rocky descents. The views along the way were incredible, panoramic vistas of the Chapada Diamantina stretching out before me. It was a good reminder to wear proper hiking boots, something I made sure to pack after almost twisting my ankle earlier in the week.
Cachoeira do Mixila is impressive. The water plunges down from a great height, creating a thunderous roar that echoes through the canyon. I felt invigorated standing there, feeling the spray on my face and watching the power of nature unfold before me. Some say that the trek to Mixila requires an overnight stay, but I found a guide who was willing to do the trip in a single day. It was tiring, sure, but I wanted to be back in Lençóis for dinner.

After a day of hiking, I was more than ready for a good meal. I headed back to Restaurante Sabor da Serra for dinner, eager to try more of Katiana's creations. This time, I opted for the Surubim with vegetables and lemon sicilian, wrapped and baked in banana leaves, served with vinaigrette salad and organic rice with coconut. The flavors were incredible, a perfect blend of local ingredients and innovative culinary techniques. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.
Before heading back to my pousada, I decided to check out Ovelha'S - Hambúrguer Esbagaçador, a local burger joint that I’d heard good things about. It was a Friday night, and the place was buzzing with locals and tourists alike. I grabbed a burger and a local beer, soaking in the lively atmosphere. The burger was delicious, a welcome change from the traditional Brazilian food I'd been eating. It was a fun and relaxed way to wind down after a day of adventure.

As I walked back to my accommodation, I couldn't help but smile. Today had been a perfect blend of nature, adventure, and culinary delights. Chapada Diamantina is truly a special place, a hidden gem that offers something for everyone. I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful region and share my experiences with you all.
Tomorrow, I'm planning to explore Gruta do Lapão and Ribeirão do Meio. I've heard that Gruta do Lapão is a stunning cave with incredible rock formations, and Ribeirão do Meio is a natural water slide that's not to be missed. I'm also hoping to visit MUNDO NATURAL, a local shop that sells handmade crafts and souvenirs. I'm always on the lookout for unique and authentic items to bring back home as gifts.
I'm also mindful of the Malacara Race Chapada Diamantina, an adventure racing event happening in Lençóis. The town is buzzing with athletes and spectators, adding an extra layer of excitement to the atmosphere. It's inspiring to see so many people pushing their limits and embracing the spirit of adventure. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to participate in a race like that myself. For now, I'm content to cheer them on from the sidelines.
As I drifted off to sleep, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for this incredible journey. Chapada Diamantina has already exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. I'm learning so much about myself, about the world, and about the power of solo travel to transform and inspire. It's a journey that I'll cherish for the rest of my life.
I'm also reminded that May is a great time to visit Chapada Diamantina. The dry season is just beginning, which means clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and ideal conditions for hiking and exploring. The waterfalls may not be as powerful as they are during the rainy season, but the trade-off is well worth it. Plus, the evenings are cool and comfortable, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the local nightlife.
Before I sign off, I wanted to share a quick tip for anyone planning a trip to Chapada Diamantina. Be sure to pack a good pair of hiking boots, sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. The sun can be intense, and the trails can be challenging. It's also a good idea to bring a small backpack to carry your essentials, such as snacks, a camera, and a first-aid kit. And don't forget to bring your sense of adventure! Chapada Diamantina is a place that rewards those who are willing to step outside their comfort zone and embrace the unknown.
Until tomorrow, friends. Keep exploring, keep discovering, and keep chasing your dreams. The world is waiting for you!
And before I forget, I should probably pick up some sunscreen and a first aid kit tomorrow. I can't believe I forgot those essentials! Luckily, MUNDO NATURAL should have what I need. It's a good reminder that even the most seasoned travelers can make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them and keep moving forward.
Embark on a 15-day solo journey through Brazil's Chapada Diamantina National Park, exploring breathtaking waterfalls and vast plateaus.
