A Day of Wonders
Today was a delightful mix of exploring Reykjavik's family-friendly attractions and indulging in some of the city's finest culinary offerings. It was a day filled with laughter, discovery, and delicious food – exactly the kind of day that makes a trip memorable.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Brass Kitchen & Bar. The cozy atmosphere was perfect for starting the day, and the menu offered a great selection of breakfast options. Hans enjoyed a traditional Icelandic breakfast, while I opted for a lighter, more continental style meal. We discussed our plans for the day, excited to visit the Reykjavík Park and Zoo, and Perlan. I must admit, I was a little worried about the weather, as March in Iceland can be unpredictable, but we dressed warmly and prepared for anything.
The Reykjavík Park and Zoo was our first stop. It's located in Laugardalur, which seems to be a hub for sports and recreation, with the national stadium nearby. The zoo focuses on Icelandic animals, which was a unique experience. We saw Icelandic sheep, cows, and even reindeer, although they were a bit shy and hard to spot. The seals were definitely a highlight, especially during feeding time. It was lovely to see the local wildlife up close. I couldn’t help but think how much our future children would love this place, and I made a mental note to bring them here someday.

The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning you never thought to ask.
After the zoo, we headed to Perlan, a truly unique landmark in Reykjavik. Housed in a building with a distinctive glass dome, Perlan offers a multifaceted experience. We started with the Wonders of Iceland exhibition, which showcased Iceland's natural wonders in an interactive and engaging way. The indoor ice cave was a particular highlight, offering a chilly glimpse into the world of glaciers. It was -10°C inside, so we were glad we had our warm clothes! The planetarium show, Áróra, was another unforgettable experience, simulating the Northern Lights dancing across the Icelandic sky. Although we hadn't managed to see the real Aurora during our trip, this show gave us a taste of its magic. Finally, we ascended to the 360-degree observation deck, which offered panoramic views of Reykjavik. It was a perfect spot to take in the city's beauty and reflect on our Icelandic adventure.

After a day of exploring, we were ready for a delicious lunch. We chose Messinn, a seafood restaurant known for its pan-fried fish dishes. The restaurant had a cozy, nautical theme, reminiscent of a ship's mess hall. Hans ordered the Arctic char, while I chose the traditional Plokkfiskur, a mashed cod fish stew. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and satisfying. I particularly enjoyed the Plokkfiskur, which was served in a sizzling pan and was a generous portion, easily enough for two people. It reminded me of my childhood in Denmark, where simple, hearty meals were a staple.

With our bellies full, we strolled along Skólavörðustígur, a vibrant street known for its colorful buildings and unique shops. We popped into Mjúk Iceland Skólavörðustígur, a boutique specializing in knitted and woven products. I was drawn to their sustainable designs and the care they put into their creations. I ended up buying a cozy scarf, a perfect souvenir to remind me of our winter trip to Iceland. I even met Anna, the designer, who was incredibly passionate about her craft. It’s wonderful to support local artisans who are dedicated to sustainable and ethical practices.

As evening approached, we made our way to Kopar for dinner. Located in Reykjavik's old harbor, Kopar is known for its creative Icelandic cuisine and seafood dishes. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere and a beautiful view of the harbor. We opted for the adventure menu, a multi-course tasting menu that showcased the best ingredients Iceland has to offer. Each dish was a work of art, both in terms of presentation and flavor. The sommelier-selected wine list was also impressive, with expert pairings that complemented each course perfectly. The crab soup was particularly delicious. The service was impeccable, and our waitress, Marusha, was wonderful, making the evening even more memorable.

Reflecting on the day, I realized how much Reykjavik has to offer for families and food lovers alike. From adorable animals and interactive exhibits to panoramic views and exquisite dining, it was a day of wonders that I'll cherish forever.
Tomorrow marks the final day of our Icelandic adventure. We plan to visit FlyOver Iceland, for a simulated flight experience over Iceland's landscapes. We also intend to visit Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre, known for its stunning architecture. We're planning to have breakfast at Duck & Rose, lunch at Hosiló, and a farewell dinner at Punk Restaurant. We might even pop into The Drunk Rabbit Irish Pub for a final drink before heading back to Berlin. I will surely miss the unique charm of Reykjavik. Though I am excited to return home, I know a part of me will always remain in this magical land of fire and ice. Until next time, Iceland!
