Another day in paradise, and Holbox continues to enchant me. Today was a blend of sun-soaked relaxation, delightful culinary experiences, and a touch of retail therapy. It’s amazing how quickly island life becomes the norm, trading my Berlin bike rides for sandy strolls.

The day began with the promise of sunshine, though September in Holbox can be a bit unpredictable with its mix of sunshine and showers. I was eager to make the most of it, so Hans and I, along with our friends, headed straight for Chobi Beach. The beach was calling, and I couldn't resist its turquoise allure.

Chobi Beach was everything I had hoped for – serene, beautiful and relatively quiet. We decided to treat ourselves to a day of lounging at Renta de camastros. Sinking into the comfortable loungers, with the gentle sound of the waves as our soundtrack, it was pure bliss. The sun was warm, and the occasional breeze kept things comfortable. I made sure to slather on plenty of sunscreen, remembering my forgotten beach hat from our packing list. The clear, shallow waters were perfect for a refreshing dip, and I spent a good hour just floating and soaking up the tranquility.

Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found in the simplest moments, like a perfect day at the beach.

After a morning of blissful relaxation, our stomachs started to rumble. It was time for breakfast, and Mr. Happy was on the menu. However, upon arriving, we discovered the establishment was temporarily closed due to a fire that occurred on June 5th, 2025. Despite this unfortunate event, we were able to find another breakfast cafe that was just as good.

For lunch, we chose Barba hbx, enticed by its reputation for fresh seafood and vibrant atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its open-air setting constructed with materials that are local to the island. The tacos were the star of the show. I opted for the fish tacos, while Hans tried the shrimp a la diabla. Each bite was a burst of flavor, perfectly complemented by the restaurant's creative cocktails. The atmosphere was lively, with music adding to the relaxed vibe.

With our appetites satisfied, it was time for a bit of shopping. Lolita Holbox Boutique had caught my eye earlier in the week, and I was eager to explore its offerings. The boutique was a treasure trove of unique finds, from handcrafted jewelry to bohemian-chic clothing. I found a beautiful, hand-dyed cotton dress that seemed perfect for island life. It felt like a little piece of Tulum transported to Holbox, and I knew it would be a wonderful addition to my wardrobe.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Fresco - Bar & Grill for dinner. Located at the Mystique Resort, the restaurant offered panoramic ocean views and a laid-back beachside dining experience. The sound of the waves and the cool ocean breeze created a magical ambiance. I ordered the tuna tostada, while Hans enjoyed the grilled sea bass. The food was fresh and delicious, and the setting was simply perfect.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore Rio Kuka and Miramar, hoping for more natural beauty and serene landscapes. Perhaps we'll even stumble upon another hidden gem or two. And of course, we'll be sure to check out TRIBU BAR for a nightcap.

As I reflect on today, I’m reminded of how much I appreciate these slower-paced days, surrounded by good company and natural beauty. Holbox has a way of stripping away the unnecessary, leaving you with what truly matters: connection, relaxation, and a sense of wonder. It's a feeling I want to hold onto long after we leave this island paradise. Perhaps I should start incorporating some of this island vibe into my urban gardening in Berlin. A little bit of Holbox in the city – now that’s an idea!
