As my Holbox adventure draws to a close, I find myself filled with a bittersweet mix of contentment and longing. This little island has captured a piece of my heart, and today was all about soaking in those last moments, ensuring I leave with memories as vibrant as the sunsets here.

The day began, as many others have, with a delightful breakfast at A by Amaite. It's become our go-to spot, not just for the tasty food, but also for its prime location right on the beach. There's something incredibly soothing about starting the day with the gentle sound of waves and a tropical breeze. I savored every bite, knowing it was one of my last mornings in this paradise. I made sure to thank Carlos, the kind employee at the front desk, for his great help throughout our stay.

Sometimes, the most beautiful chapters in our lives are the ones we didn't plan, but simply embraced with an open heart.

With our bellies full and spirits high, my friends and I decided to dedicate the morning to a bit of retail therapy. Our destination: Deluxe Boutique Holbox. I was on the hunt for some unique souvenirs to bring back home, little reminders of our incredible trip. The boutique was a treasure trove of local crafts, handmade jewelry, and stylish beachwear. I picked up a beautifully crafted macrame wall hanging for our Berlin apartment, something to add a touch of Holbox's bohemian vibe to our living space. I also found some delicate silver earrings made with Larimar, a stone that reminded me of the clear turquoise water of the Gulf.

For lunch, we ventured to Taco Queto. I had heard whispers about their tacos al pastor, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint ! The marinated pork was perfectly seasoned and cooked, the tortillas were warm and soft, and the toppings added just the right amount of zing. It's a modest, street-food style restaurant, and I can easily see why it’s a favorite with the locals. The quick service and fair prices certainly add to its appeal. I made sure to ask for corn tortillas for a unique Yucatan flavor. I also tried a burrito, which was tasty and quite filling.

After lunch, we decided to explore Casa Laguna Lagartos. The walk there from the main square was pleasant, taking about 15 minutes. While it was a bit of a walk from the center, the promise of seeing the ecological paradise was enticing. It’s a charming place, and I especially enjoyed the chance to connect with nature.

As the afternoon sun began its descent, we made our way to La Mejor Puesta del Sol en Holbox, known as the best sunset spot. We arrived early to snag a prime viewing spot, and as the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors, I felt a sense of awe wash over me. The hues of pink, orange, and purple were breathtaking, reflecting off the calm waters of the Gulf. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Holbox, a moment of pure magic that I'll cherish forever.

For our final dinner, we chose Las Panchas, a restaurant known for its authentic regional cuisine. The atmosphere was lively, and the aroma of traditional Mexican dishes filled the air. I opted for the coconut shrimp, a local specialty, and it was absolutely divine. The portions were generous, and the prices were quite reasonable. It was the perfect way to end our culinary journey through Holbox, savoring the flavors of the island one last time.

As I sit here, writing this final blog post from our hotel room, I can't help but feel grateful for the incredible experiences we've had. Holbox has been more than just a vacation; it's been a journey of discovery, relaxation, and connection. From swimming in the bioluminescent waters to exploring the vibrant street art, every moment has been a treasure. I’m already dreaming of our next adventure, perhaps exploring more of the Yucatan Peninsula. But for now, it's time to pack our bags and prepare for our journey back to Berlin, filled with sunshine and unforgettable memories. Hans is already looking forward to sharing our stories with our friends back home, and I can't wait to start planning our next escape.

Tomorrow, we head back to the mainland, taking the ferry to Cancun and then catching our flight back to Berlin. It’s going to be a long day of travel, but I know the memories of Holbox will keep us smiling all the way home.
