Holbox Bliss: A Day of Beach, Art, and Culinary Delights
Another day in paradise, and Holbox continues to enchant me with its laid-back vibe and hidden gems. Today was all about soaking up the sun, admiring the local art, and indulging in the island's delicious flavors. The weather in Holbox in September is warm and humid, with temperatures around 28°C (83°F), peaking at 34°C (93°F). Expect intermittent rain, so it’s wise to keep an umbrella handy.
Our morning started with a leisurely breakfast at LUUMA. I’ve heard so much about this place, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The ambiance was so relaxing, perfect for easing into the day. I opted for a traditional Danish pastry to remind me of home, while my friends went for some local fruit and granola. The coffee, of course, was essential for getting our energy levels up.

After breakfast, we decided to hit the beach. ISLA Holbox Beach Zona Hotelera was calling our names, and it was just a short stroll from LUUMA. The beach was pristine, with soft white sand and clear turquoise waters. We found a cozy spot and spent a few hours lounging, swimming, and soaking up the Caribbean sun. I even tried my hand at stand-up paddleboarding, which was both exhilarating and slightly embarrassing as I kept losing my balance! The September sun can be intense, so I was extra grateful for my sunscreen, even though I had forgotten my beach hat back in Berlin. The girls were relaxing, enjoying the stunning views and crystal-clear waters.

Around midday, our stomachs started rumbling, signaling it was time for lunch. We decided to try Ceviches La Chingada, a local spot known for its fresh seafood and authentic flavors. It's located near the central park, across from a famous fish mural. This place was a real find! The ceviche was incredible – so fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. My friends tried the fish tacos, which they raved about. And the best part? It was all incredibly affordable, making it a perfect spot for budget travelers like us. This little gem is known for serving life-changing ceviche.

After lunch, we decided to explore the town a bit. Holbox is known for its vibrant street art, and we were eager to see some of the murals. We stumbled upon Lettere Holbox, a collection of colorful letters spelling out the island's name, each one decorated with unique designs. It was a perfect photo opportunity, and we spent a good half-hour snapping pictures and admiring the creativity of the local artists. It’s amazing how art can transform a place and add so much character.

As the afternoon wore on, we started thinking about dinner. We had heard great things about Chinicuil Tacos + Mezcal Holbox Restaurant, and we were excited to try some authentic Mexican cuisine. This restaurant specializes in traditional food from central Mexico. The restaurant itself was charming, with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. We ordered a selection of tacos, each filled with different meats and toppings. The flavors were incredible – rich, savory, and bursting with spices. And of course, we had to try the mezcal, which was smooth and smoky, with a hint of sweetness. The combination of tacos and mezcal was the perfect way to end our culinary adventure.

After dinner, we weren't quite ready to call it a night. We decided to check out KUKÁ BAR, a popular spot known for its lively atmosphere and creative cocktails. The bar was buzzing with energy, and the music was infectious. We ordered a round of drinks and spent a few hours dancing, laughing, and soaking up the Holbox nightlife. It was the perfect way to cap off another amazing day on this magical island.

Reflecting on the day, I feel so grateful for the experiences I've had here on Holbox. It's a place that truly nourishes the soul, with its stunning natural beauty, vibrant culture, and delicious food. I’m looking forward to our final day tomorrow, where we plan to visit La Mejor puesta del Sol en Holbox to witness the sunset and Casa Laguna Lagartos. We'll also have breakfast at A by Amaite, lunch at Taco Queto, and a farewell dinner at Las Panchas. Before heading to the airport, we will visit Deluxe Boutique Holbox for some last-minute souvenir shopping. It’s hard to believe our trip is coming to an end, but I know I’ll be taking home memories that will last a lifetime.
