Today was a day of vibrant exploration in Essaouira, a city that continues to enchant me with its blend of culture, history, and culinary delights. With Hans and the family, I set out to discover the heart of this coastal gem, embracing every moment with the enthusiasm of a seasoned traveler and the warmth of a mother eager to share these experiences with her loved ones.

Our morning began at Retro Corner Essaouira, a delightful spot for breakfast. The restaurant had a clean and cheerfully designed interior. It was a hidden gem that offered an eclectic blend of delicious and healthy foods, including many vegan options. Fuelled up and ready to explore, our first stop was the Place du Marché aux Grains. The market was bustling with activity. It was a feast for the senses, with vendors selling everything from spices and argan oil to handcrafted leather goods. The air was thick with the scent of exotic spices, and the vibrant colors of the textiles created a mesmerizing tapestry. I couldn't resist purchasing a few small bottles of argan oil, a staple in Moroccan beauty and cuisine, knowing it would remind me of Essaouira long after we've left.

Next, we ventured towards Bab El Marsa, the iconic gateway to Essaouira's port. The architecture was impressive, a testament to the city's rich history and strategic importance. As we walked through the gate, we were greeted by the sight of fishing boats bobbing in the harbor, seagulls soaring overhead, and fishermen mending their nets. The salty air filled our lungs, and the sounds of the ocean created a symphony of tranquility. The kids were fascinated by the bustling activity, pointing out the different types of boats and the colorful array of fish being unloaded.

For lunch, we chose Restaurant La Clé de Voûte, enticed by its reputation for combining fresh flavors with vibrant colors. The restaurant was located in the heart of the Medina. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the menu featured a delightful array of Moroccan and French dishes. I opted for the tagine, a traditional Moroccan stew, while Hans chose a seafood dish, eager to savor the flavors of the Atlantic. The meal was a culinary masterpiece, each bite bursting with flavor and cooked with love. The restaurant’s colorful decor and friendly atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax and refuel after a morning of exploration.

In the afternoon, I decided to indulge in some retail therapy at Ici Mogador, a charming shop known for its unique Moroccan treasures. The shop was a treasure trove of Moroccan culture and artistry. I found an array of handmade items crafted by local artisans. I purchased a beautiful ceramic bowl, its intricate designs reflecting the artistry of Moroccan craftsmanship. The kids were thrilled with their small, hand-painted wooden toys, promising hours of imaginative play.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Chez Rachid for dinner, a restaurant recommended by several locals for its authentic Moroccan cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, and the aroma of spices filled the air. We dined on a selection of traditional dishes, including couscous, grilled meats, and fresh salads. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous, leaving us feeling satisfied and content. The warm hospitality of the staff made us feel like we were dining in a family home, adding to the charm of the evening.

Reflecting on the day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience Essaouira with my family. Each moment, from the bustling markets to the serene harbor, has woven itself into the tapestry of our memories. As we prepare for our final day in this enchanting city, I am excited to see what tomorrow holds. We plan to visit Plage d'Essaouira and Borj El Barmil. We will also enjoy meals at Restaurant des Rêves, Restaurant Khmissa and Restaurant Le Sirocco. And perhaps we will visit La Rencontre bar for a nightcap.

Essaouira, with its blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, has captured my heart, and I know that it will forever hold a special place in my travel memories. It reminds me of the importance of embracing new experiences and the joy of sharing them with loved ones. Even though I miss my bees back in Berlin, I know that this trip is essential to recharge my batteries and get new ideas for my urban beekeeping projects.

As we walked back to Hotel Des Iles, under a sky dusted with stars, I felt a profound sense of contentment. Essaouira had given us a day filled with beauty, adventure, and unforgettable moments, reaffirming my love for travel and the joy of discovering new cultures.
