Mountain Majesty and Valley Views
Today was nothing short of magical! I've always been drawn to the mountains, and the Atlas range did not disappoint. It was a day filled with stunning landscapes, warm encounters, and flavors that danced on my palate. I'm so excited to share every detail with you.
The day began early, with a delicious breakfast at Narwama. I savored the traditional Moroccan flavors, fueling up for the adventures that lay ahead. After breakfast, Hans and I met our tour guide, and we set off towards the Atlas Mountains. The drive itself was a treat, with the scenery transforming from the bustling city of Marrakech to rolling hills dotted with small villages.

Our first major stop was the majestic Atlas Mountains. The sheer scale of these mountains is humbling. The air was crisp and clean, a welcome change from the city. We spent a good amount of time simply taking in the views, snapping photos, and breathing in the fresh mountain air. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility that’s hard to find elsewhere. The weather was absolutely perfect; sunny with a gentle breeze, making it ideal for exploring.
Sometimes, the most beautiful destinations are not just places you see, but experiences that become a part of you.
Next on our itinerary was the enchanting Ourika Valley Waterfalls. The journey to the waterfalls was an adventure in itself. We drove through the picturesque Ourika Valley, passing traditional Berber villages clinging to the hillsides. It was fascinating to see how the locals live, their lives so intertwined with the land. We even stopped at a roadside stall where a local vendor was selling argan oil and other handmade products. I couldn't resist buying a small bottle of argan oil, knowing it would be a perfect reminder of this day.

The hike to the waterfalls was invigorating. The path was a bit rocky in places, but the views more than made up for it. As we climbed higher, the sound of rushing water grew louder, building anticipation for what was to come. Finally, we reached the waterfalls, a series of cascades tumbling down the mountainside. The water was crystal clear and icy cold. Some of the braver souls in our group even took a dip, but I was content to simply admire the view and dip my toes in the refreshing water.
After our waterfall adventure, it was time for lunch. Our guide took us to Naranj Libanese, a Lebanese restaurant in Marrakech. While I was initially surprised to not be eating Moroccan food, the meal turned out to be a delightful change of pace. The flavors were vibrant and fresh, and the rooftop setting provided stunning views of the city. I particularly enjoyed the Mezze Plate, a colorful assortment of dips and salads perfect for sharing.

With our bellies full and our spirits high, we ventured into the Souk El Henna. This market was a sensory explosion, with vibrant colors, exotic scents, and a dizzying array of goods on display. I was particularly fascinated by the henna stalls, where skilled artists create intricate designs on hands and feet. Although I didn’t get a henna tattoo myself, I enjoyed watching the process and admiring the beautiful artwork. I ended up buying a few small souvenirs, including a beautifully embroidered scarf and some fragrant spices to bring back home to Germany.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way back to Marrakech. Before heading back to the riad, we had a final culinary experience at La Grande Table Marocaine for dinner. The restaurant was beautiful, with a calm and inviting atmosphere. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and Hans and I enjoyed a lovely Moroccan tea as well.

Reflecting on the day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and culture of Morocco. The Atlas Mountains and Ourika Valley were truly breathtaking, and the warmth and hospitality of the local people touched my heart. I'm also grateful for having Hans by my side, sharing these incredible moments with me. These are the kinds of days that make travel so rewarding.
Tomorrow, we are planning to explore more of Marrakech itself, including the Marrakech Museum, the Almoravid Koubba, and the Cyber Park Arsat Moulay Abdesalam. We will also be trying out Henna Café for breakfast, L'mida Marrakech for lunch, and Le Bistro Arabe - Moroccan Jazz Restaurant in Marrakech for dinner. I'm also hoping to check out BAROMETRE COCKTAILS in Marrakech for a nightcap. I can’t wait to see what adventures tomorrow brings!
For now, I bid you goodnight from Marrakech. Until next time, happy travels!
P.S. I really should have remembered my universal power adapter and travel journal! I guess I will have to go shopping for them tomorrow.
