Today was a day of embracing the raw, untamed beauty of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. I set out with a sense of anticipation, eager to see what hidden corners and breathtaking views this protected landscape held. My journey was a reminder that sometimes, the most rewarding experiences come from simply putting one foot in front of the other and allowing yourself to be led by the rhythm of nature.

My day began in Espot, where I enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Pizzeria Al dente. I opted for a simple but satisfying meal, a cheese pizza which gave me the energy I needed for the day's adventures. It reminded me of the simple, delicious pizzas Andreas and I used to make on Friday nights when Sophie was little. Fuelled up, I made my way towards the trails, ready to immerse myself in the natural wonders of the park.

The first major stop was the majestic Collada de Dellui. The trail was moderately challenging, with a steady incline that tested my stamina, but the views along the way were more than worth the effort. As I ascended, the landscape transformed, revealing panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The air was crisp and clean, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth. I paused frequently to catch my breath and soak in the scenery, feeling a sense of awe at the sheer scale and grandeur of the natural world. I even managed to identify some late-blooming wildflowers, their vibrant colors a stark contrast to the rugged terrain.

Reaching the Collada de Dellui was a triumph. From the top, the world seemed to stretch out endlessly in every direction. I could see the winding trails I had traversed, the shimmering lakes nestled in the valleys below, and the distant peaks shrouded in mist. It was a moment of pure exhilaration, a feeling of being on top of the world. I took some time to sketch the landscape in my notebook, trying to capture the essence of this special place. I think I will try to recreate it later as a floral arrangement when I get home to Bonn. I also took a moment to remember my parents, who instilled in me a love for the outdoors and a sense of adventure.

After descending from Collada de Dellui, my next destination was the Cascada del Gerber, also known as Salt de Comials. This stunning waterfall is one of the park's most iconic landmarks, and I was eager to witness its beauty firsthand. The trail to the waterfall led through a dense forest, the sunlight filtering through the canopy in dappled patterns. The sound of rushing water grew louder as I approached, building anticipation for the spectacle to come.

And what a spectacle it was! The Cascada del Gerber plunged down a rocky cliff face with tremendous force, sending a spray of mist into the air. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the surrounding greenery and creating a kaleidoscope of colors. I stood in awe, feeling the cool mist on my skin and listening to the thunderous roar of the falls. It was a sensory overload in the best possible way, a reminder of the power and beauty of nature. The Cascada del Gerber is the largest waterfall in the park with a 125 meter drop.

I spent a long time at the base of the waterfall, taking photographs and simply enjoying the moment. I even spotted a few brave souls who had ventured closer to the falls, their figures dwarfed by the sheer scale of the cascade. I thought about Andreas and Sophie, imagining their reactions to this incredible sight. I made a mental note to bring them back here someday so they too can experience its magic.

After a morning of hiking, I was ready for a midday meal. I stopped for lunch at Restaurant La Llúpia in Espot. I enjoyed traditional Catalan cuisine, savoring the flavors of the region. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with friendly staff who made me feel right at home. I tried a local dish of *escudella*, a hearty stew perfect for a chilly autumn day. It reminded me of the comforting meals my Oma used to make, filling me with a sense of nostalgia and warmth.

With my stomach full and my spirits high, I decided to indulge in a bit of retail therapy. I visited Fort De Pa Sorm, a local shop in Espot, where I purchased some handcrafted souvenirs. I found a beautiful ceramic vase, perfect for displaying my floral arrangements back in Bonn, as well as some local honey to bring back for Andreas. Supporting local businesses is important to me, and I was happy to find some unique treasures to remind me of my time in Aigüestortes.

As evening approached, I made my way to Eth Triton Restaurant for dinner. This restaurant is known for its exquisite dining experience in the heart of Arties. Javier, the owner, is known to recommend the finest selections, whether you crave seafood or succulent meats. I opted for the steak tartar which the restaurant is known for. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration and adventure.

Reflecting on the day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and tranquility of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. From the panoramic views at Collada de Dellui to the cascading waters of Cascada del Gerber, every moment was a feast for the senses. This solo retreat has been a chance to reconnect with nature, find inspiration for my floral designs, and create lasting memories. Tomorrow, I plan to visit Casa del Parc de Boí and Circ de Colomers, eager to discover more hidden gems in this enchanting corner of Spain. I might even stop by Tardeo la pleta for a drink [Tardeo la pleta is a bar]. I am also hoping to find a small gift for Andreas and Sophie. I will definitely need to pick up a portable charger since I forgot mine! I am already looking forward to sharing my next adventure with you all.
