Day 7: A Day of Hidden Coves and Village Charm in Paxos
Discover the hidden beauty of Kaloiri Cove and the vibrant charm of Mouriki Square in Paxos, Greece. A day of sun, sea, and local culture!
Sun-Kissed Shores and Lively Squares
Today was a day of exploration and relaxation, perfectly capturing the essence of Paxos. We ventured to hidden coves, soaked up the sun, and immersed ourselves in the local culture. It was one of those days where everything just flowed seamlessly, leaving us with a sense of contentment and a deeper appreciation for this tranquil island.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Lakkaki restaurant in Lakka. The restaurant is situated in a stunning bay, adorned with vibrant flowers and inviting boutiques. The setting was idyllic, and we enjoyed wandering through the picturesque streets, admiring the charming houses before settling down for our meal. I ordered a traditional Greek yogurt with honey and nuts, while Hans opted for a hearty omelet. Sofia, of course, wanted a crepe, which she devoured with gusto. Lakkaki restaurant is known for its exceptional staff, exquisite surroundings, and delectable cuisine, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. The proximity to the port made it extra convenient, and we savored every moment, soaking in the breathtaking scenery.
After breakfast, we decided to explore Kaloiri Cove. We packed our essentials – sunscreen (which I am so glad I remembered!), swimwear, and our trusty camera – and set off. Kaloiri Cove is a picturesque spot on the island of Antipaxos, known for its stunning natural beauty and serene atmosphere. The cove is located on the west coast of Antipaxos, and offers breathtaking views of cliffs and crystal-clear waters, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Kaloiri Cove is one of the best spots in Greece.

Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries are the ones you stumble upon unexpectedly.
We spent a couple of hours swimming in the turquoise waters and exploring the little coves. Sofia was particularly thrilled, splashing around with her inflatable unicorn. Hans, ever the adventurer, even tried some cliff jumping (much to my initial dismay, but he assured me it was safe!). I contented myself with snorkeling, marveling at the vibrant marine life beneath the surface. The cove was relatively quiet, which added to its charm. It felt like we had discovered our own private paradise.
After our invigorating swim, we worked up quite an appetite. We decided to head back to Gaios for lunch at The Bournaos. This restaurant is known for authentic Greek cuisine, and we were eager to try it out. The Bournaos is actually a traditional coffee shop and taverna that acts as a meeting point in the center of the island. It is a place where locals and tourists alike stop for a Greek coffee, a tsipouro, or a spoonful of local dessert. The interior is amazing, with only a few tables, and all the original decorative items from the last 50 years. There is also a very nice garden with a pergola covered with a vine and a few tables.

I opted for the moussaka, a classic Greek dish, while Hans chose the souvlaki. Sofia, predictably, wanted pasta again. The food was delicious, and we savored every bite, accompanied by a refreshing local wine. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and we felt like we were truly experiencing Greek culture.
After lunch, we strolled through Mouriki Square, which is known for its array of delightful cafes and restaurants offering authentic Greek cuisine. It was bustling with activity, locals and tourists alike enjoying the warm afternoon sun. We stopped for an ice cream at a local gelateria, savoring the sweet treat as we watched the world go by. Mouriki Square is a hub of local life, and we enjoyed soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.

Next on our list was a visit to Attitude is a Choice, a local shop known for its unique clothing and perfumes. I had heard great things about their selection of locally made products, and I was eager to check it out. The shop was charming, with a wide array of stylish clothes and fragrances. I ended up buying a beautiful linen dress and a bottle of locally made perfume with a delicate floral scent. Sofia even found a cute little bracelet with a starfish charm.

As evening approached, we decided to unwind at Porto Vecchio, a bar known for its vibrant atmosphere and stunning views. It is located in an old Olive oil factory, Porto Vecchio combines history with a vibrant Nightlife Experience. The bar's unique Setting adds to its charm, offering patrons a distinctive place to enjoy their evening. We sipped on cocktails as we watched the sunset over the Ionian Sea. The sky was ablaze with vibrant colors, creating a truly magical scene. Sofia, tired from her day of adventures, fell asleep in my arms, lulled by the gentle music and the soothing sound of the waves.

For dinner, we chose Celestino, an Italian restaurant in Gaios. We have had an unforgettable night with friends in their beautiful garden setting. The restaurant is owned by a lovely couple who serve delicious homemade pastas. The restaurant offers a pretty courtyard with chandeliers and bougainvillea, creating a fabulous dining atmosphere. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi, while Hans opted for the swordfish. Sofia, of course, wanted spaghetti carbonara. The food was divine, and the service was impeccable. It was the perfect way to end our day of exploration and relaxation.
