Island Escape to La Digue: A Seychellois Homecoming
Day 5: Island Hopping and Beach Bliss: A Day of Discovery in La Digue
Exploring La Digue's gems: Anse Georgette's beauty, Ile au Cerf's charm, and savoring local flavors. A day of Seychellois delight!
A Day of Island Dreams
Today was a symphony of sun, sand, and sea – a true embodiment of island life here in La Digue. It’s days like these that remind me why I longed to return to my roots, to share the Seychelles with Hans and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Every moment felt like a postcard come to life, and I'm so excited to share the details with you all.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at our guesthouse. Fuelled with fresh fruit and strong Seychellois coffee, we set out to explore the legendary Anse Georgette. It was an early start, but the anticipation kept us going.
Anse Georgette: A Hidden Paradise
Reaching Anse Georgette felt like discovering a secret. The journey itself was an adventure, a winding path through lush greenery that opened onto the most breathtaking view. The sand was impossibly white, the water a gradient of blues that no photograph could ever truly capture. Hans was immediately captivated, and I felt a surge of pride, showing him one of the Seychelles' most stunning treasures.

We spent hours swimming in the crystal-clear water, the gentle waves lapping against the shore. It was so serene, so peaceful. I couldn't resist taking dozens of photos, trying to freeze this moment in time. Hans, ever the adventurer, went for a snorkel, marveling at the colorful fish darting among the coral. I simply floated, letting the warmth of the sun soak into my skin, feeling utterly content.
Sometimes, the most beautiful places are those that require a little effort to reach, making the reward all the more satisfying.
After our idyllic morning at Anse Georgette, our stomachs started to rumble, reminding us that even paradise requires sustenance. We decided to try Skychef Shop for lunch. I had heard wonderful things about their Creole dishes, and I was eager to taste some authentic island flavors.
Lunch at Skychef Shop: A Taste of Creole
Skychef Shop turned out to be a delightful surprise. It wasn't fancy, but it was full of character, with friendly staff and a menu brimming with local specialties. We ordered grilled fish with Creole sauce, rice, and a side of papaya salad. The fish was cooked to perfection, the sauce a tantalizing blend of spices that danced on my tongue. Hans, who usually prefers German cuisine, was surprisingly enthusiastic, declaring it one of the best meals he’s had so far.

As we ate, we chatted with the owner, who shared stories about La Digue and its people. It’s these personal interactions that make traveling so enriching, connecting us to the heart and soul of a place. Feeling full and content, we decided to continue our island exploration.
Ile au Cerf: An Afternoon Escape
Next on our itinerary was Ile au Cerf, a small island just a short boat ride away. The boat trip itself was a treat, the wind in our hair, the sun on our faces, as we glided across the turquoise water. Arriving at Ile au Cerf, we were greeted by yet another stunning beach, this one with a slightly different character than Anse Georgette. It was livelier, with people swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying various water sports.

Hans and I took a leisurely stroll along the shore, collecting seashells and admiring the unique rock formations. We even spotted a few sea turtles gliding gracefully through the water. It was magical. We decided to relax at the Beach Shak Seychelles for a bit. Although I know there is one on Mahe, the one on Ile au Cerf was a welcome treat.
Beach Shak Seychelles: Cocktails and Sunset Views
As the afternoon waned, we found ourselves drawn to Beach Shak Seychelles, a vibrant beach bar known for its cocktails and stunning sunset views. We settled into comfortable chairs, ordered a couple of their signature drinks, and watched as the sky transformed into a canvas of fiery hues.

The atmosphere was electric, with music playing and people laughing, all bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. It was the perfect way to end our day of island hopping. Sipping my cocktail, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for this incredible experience, for the chance to share it with Hans, and for the beauty of the Seychelles that never ceases to amaze me.
Dinner at Sunrise Beach Bar & Grill: A Culinary Delight
For dinner, we chose Sunrise Beach Bar & Grill, enticed by its reputation for fresh seafood and lively ambiance. Located a bit further afield, it was well worth the journey. The restaurant was buzzing with activity, filled with locals and tourists alike, all eager to savor the flavors of the Seychelles.

We started with a selection of appetizers, including grilled octopus and fish cakes, each bursting with unique Creole spices. For our main courses, Hans opted for a succulent grilled fish, while I chose the seafood curry, a rich and creamy concoction that was simply divine. The meal was a true celebration of Seychellois cuisine, and we savored every bite.
“The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning, you didn't even think to ask.”
As we dined, we were serenaded by a local band, their music filling the air with joyful rhythms. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day, a reminder of the vibrant culture and warm hospitality that make the Seychelles so special. We ended the evening with a nightcap at L'Escale Lounge & Restaurant. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the marina as we sipped our drinks.

Looking Ahead
Tomorrow, we're off to Praslin! We plan to visit Curieuse Island, home to giant tortoises, and explore the Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site. I'm particularly excited about seeing the coco de mer palms, a symbol of the Seychelles. We'll also be dining at Spice, The Station Seychelles and Perry's Grillz, so I'm excited for the different flavors that await us. I've heard that COCO is a great place to get some souvenirs, so we'll be stopping there as well.
Until then, au revoir from La Digue! I can't wait to share more of our Seychellois adventure with you all.
I'm so glad I remembered to pack all of my essentials, especially my camera! I almost forgot it, but thankfully I remembered at the last minute. However, I wish I had brought a beach umbrella. The sun here is intense, and it would have been nice to have some extra shade.
It was also Liberation day today, which is a political holiday with official ceremonies. I am glad I got to celebrate this day with the locals!
Join us on a journey to La Digue, Seychelles, where we explore pristine beaches, vibrant Creole culture, and reconnect with island roots.
