Blue Hues and Hidden Views
Today in Chefchaouen felt like stepping deeper into a dream. The blue just gets more intense, more magical, the longer you stay. It's hard to believe that tomorrow marks the tenth day of our Moroccan adventure. Jean-Pierre would have loved this place, I know it! I thought about him so much today, and how we would have enjoyed wandering through the medina, discovering hidden gems and sharing stories with the locals. I know I need to come back with him someday soon.
Our day started with a delightful breakfast at Casa Arina. The cozy atmosphere and the delicious Moroccan pastries were the perfect way to kick off our explorations. I was so excited to start the day, especially as I knew it involved some scenic viewpoints.

First on our list was Hero Eagle. I had read about this spot online, and the reviews were promising. Getting there involved a bit of a climb, but the panoramic views of Chefchaouen were more than worth the effort. From up there, the blue city sprawled beneath us, a breathtaking tapestry of color against the backdrop of the Rif Mountains. It was a photographer's dream, and I spent a good hour snapping photos, trying to capture the essence of this magical place. The crisp mountain air and the stunning vista made me feel so alive and connected to the world. I thought about my linguistics studies and how the evolution of language is so intertwined with the landscapes and cultures that shape them.

Sometimes, the most beautiful places are those that make you feel like you've stepped into a painting.
After soaking in the views from Hero Eagle, we decided to delve deeper into the heart of the medina with Blue Medina Tours. Our guide, whose name was Omar, was a local with a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of Chefchaouen. He led us through the labyrinthine streets, pointing out hidden gems and sharing stories that brought the city to life. It was fascinating to learn about the origins of the blue color, how it was introduced by Jewish refugees in the 1930s, and how it has become such an integral part of the city's identity. Omar also showed us some of the local artisan workshops, where we watched weavers creating intricate carpets and metalworkers crafting beautiful lanterns. I even picked up a small, hand-painted ceramic bowl as a souvenir, a little piece of Chefchaouen to take back home to Lyon.

For lunch, we ventured to Traditional kitchen, a small, unassuming restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner of the medina. The food was simple but incredibly flavorful, a true taste of Moroccan home cooking. I ordered a tagine with chicken and preserved lemons, and it was absolutely divine. The aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water, and the combination of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors was simply irresistible. My friends opted for couscous with vegetables, and they raved about the freshness and the delicate balance of spices. It was the perfect midday meal, a chance to refuel and recharge before continuing our explorations.

As the afternoon wore on, we made our way to Sunset at sunset, a bar known for its stunning views of the setting sun. We arrived early to secure a good spot, and as the sun began to dip below the horizon, the sky transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors. Hues of orange, pink, and purple painted the landscape, casting a warm glow over the blue city. It was a truly magical sight, and I felt so grateful to be sharing it with my friends. We sipped on refreshing mint tea, chatted, and laughed, savoring the moment and creating memories that would last a lifetime. I even tried to capture the scene with my camera, but no photograph could ever do justice to the beauty of that sunset.

For our final meal of the day, we chose Sofia, a restaurant recommended by Omar for its authentic Moroccan cuisine and cozy atmosphere. We weren't disappointed. The restaurant was bustling with locals and tourists alike, and the air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of spices and grilled meats. I decided to try the pastilla, a traditional Moroccan pie filled with shredded chicken, almonds, and spices, dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. It was a unique and delicious dish, a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors. My friends ordered a variety of tagines and grilled meats, and everyone was thoroughly satisfied with their meal. The staff at Sofia were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day, a celebration of Moroccan culture and cuisine.
