Saturday's Serene Discoveries
Today in Chefchaouen was a delightful blend of panoramic vistas, historical insights, and tranquil moments in nature. The kind of day that reminds me why I love to travel – experiencing the unique charm and character of a place, one step at a time. It was a day filled with simple pleasures, from the taste of local cuisine to the beauty of the Rif Mountains.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Mandala. I savored a traditional Moroccan pastry and strong coffee, fueling up for the day’s adventures. The warm atmosphere of the restaurant, adorned with local art, was a perfect start to my explorations.
Ascent to Hero Eagle
Eager to capture Chefchaouen from above, I made my way to Hero Eagle. The walk there was an experience in itself, a gentle climb through the outskirts of the town. The path was lined with vibrant flora, offering glimpses into the daily lives of the locals. I couldn't resist stopping to photograph the colorful scenes, each telling a story of this unique Moroccan lifestyle.
Reaching Hero Eagle, I was rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view. The blue-washed buildings of Chefchaouen stretched out before me, framed by the majestic Rif Mountains. The soft morning light painted the town in a magical hue, perfect for capturing stunning photographs. I spent a good hour there, simply soaking in the serene beauty and snapping away with my camera. I can see why it's considered a must-visit spot; it truly encapsulates the spirit of Chefchaouen.

A Visit to Lavadero de la Ciudad
Next on my list was the Lavadero de la Ciudad, a historical washhouse that offered a glimpse into the town’s past. The walk from Hero Eagle was a pleasant descent through the winding streets of the medina. I passed by bustling shops and friendly locals, each encounter adding to the charm of the town.
Arriving at the Lavadero, I found a serene spot where locals once gathered to wash their clothes in the river. The area was beautifully maintained, with clear water flowing through the ancient stones. I took some time to wander around, imagining the stories and conversations that once filled this space. It was a humbling experience, connecting me to the everyday lives of the people who have called Chefchaouen home for generations.

“The beauty of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in experiencing new perspectives.”
After soaking in the history, I decided to have lunch at Sofia. This charming restaurant offered a delightful array of Moroccan dishes, and I opted for a tagine, savoring the rich flavors and spices. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made the meal even more enjoyable.
Tranquility at Park Sidi Abdelhamid
In the afternoon, I sought out the tranquility of Park Sidi Abdelhamid. A short walk from the bustling medina, the park provided a welcome escape into nature. I strolled along the pathways, admiring the lush landscapes and vibrant flora. The park was peaceful and calm, offering a perfect spot for relaxation and reflection.
I found a quiet bench and sat down, enjoying the gentle breeze and the sounds of nature. It was a perfect moment to journal about my experiences in Chefchaouen, capturing the essence of this enchanting town. As a horticultural consultant, I couldn't help but appreciate the park's well-maintained gardens and diverse plant life.

Shopping for Souvenirs
Before dinner, I ventured into Hibart Souvenirs Shop. I wanted to find a few mementos to remind me of my time in Chefchaouen and perhaps find something special for Klaus and Olivia. The shop was filled with colorful handicrafts, traditional clothing, and unique souvenirs. I carefully selected a few items, each one carrying a piece of Chefchaouen’s charm.

Reflections on the Day
As the day drew to a close, I walked back to Hotel Barcelona, reflecting on the experiences I had gathered. From the panoramic views at Hero Eagle to the historical insights at Lavadero de la Ciudad and the tranquil moments at Park Sidi Abdelhamid, it was a day that truly captured the essence of Chefchaouen. I felt grateful for the opportunity to explore this enchanting town and immerse myself in its unique culture. I also managed to avoid forgetting any trip essentials today!

Tomorrow, I plan to visit the Kasbah, Bab Chaouen, and another Kasbah, hoping to delve deeper into the history and architecture of this beautiful town. And perhaps enjoy a sunset at sunset bar.
Chefchaouen has a way of seeping into your soul, leaving you with a sense of peace and wonder. It’s a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to fully appreciate the simple beauty of life. And as I prepare for another day of exploration, I can’t help but feel excited about what tomorrow will bring.
I am also aware that the International Festival of Environmental Films of Chefchaouen will be held from June 25 to 28, 2025. It is a pity that I will not be able to attend.
As I always say, “Man muss die Feste feiern, wie sie fallen!” – You have to celebrate the festivals as they come! It’s a German saying that Klaus taught me, and it reminds me to always embrace the moment and find joy in every experience.
Good night from Chefchaouen!
