First Impressions of Dades Valley

After a long journey from Frankfurt, with a connecting flight in Marrakech, I've finally arrived in the breathtaking Dades Valley with my friends. The air is crisp, the landscape dramatic, and I can already tell this is going to be an unforgettable experience. As a freelance horticultural consultant from Heidelberg, Germany, I'm used to serene gardens, but the raw beauty of Morocco is something else entirely. I'm eager to share every moment of this adventure with you all, from the monkey-shaped rocks to the warm Berber hospitality.

The drive from Marrakech was long but incredibly scenic. The landscape transformed from bustling cityscapes to the stark, beautiful terrain of the Atlas Mountains. Klaus would have loved the architecture here; I must remember to bring him back. The High Atlas Mountains are part of a mountain range that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to Tunisia.

Our first day in Dades Valley was packed with exploration and cultural immersion. After settling in, we were ready to explore!

Breakfast at Canyon Dades Restaurant

We started our day with a hearty breakfast at Canyon Dades Restaurant. The restaurant offered stunning views of the canyon. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast of msemen (pancakes), honey, and mint tea. The msemen was perfectly flaky, and the honey added a touch of sweetness that balanced the strong mint tea. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of sightseeing. Apparently, they are known for their hospitality.

Chasing Monkeys at Pattes Des Singes

Our first stop was Pattes Des Singes, which translates to Monkey Feet. These unique rock formations resemble monkey toes clinging to the side of the canyon. The hike to get a closer look was invigorating. The air was fresh, and the views were simply stunning. The landscape is characterized by towering rock formations and winding canyons. I made sure to bring my camera to capture the unique biodiversity.

Sometimes, the most rewarding experiences are the ones that require a little bit of climbing.

As we hiked, I couldn't help but think of Olivia, my daughter back in Germany. She would have loved scrambling over these rocks and taking photos of the unique formations. I must remember to send her some pictures. The rock formations have been shaped over millions of years by the Dades River.

Dades Panoramic View: A Feast for the Eyes

Next, we drove to the Dades panoramic view, which offered an even more expansive vista of the valley. From this vantage point, we could see the winding Dades River snaking its way through the landscape, flanked by lush green oases and towering red cliffs. I took several photos, trying to capture the grandeur of the scene, but a photograph simply can't do it justice.

The panoramic view provided insight into the unique lifestyle of the local Moroccan residents. The warm hospitality and kindness made it an unforgettable trip filled with beauty, charm, and cultural richness.

Lunch at Restaurant Chez Aïcha Timlalt

For lunch, we stopped at Restaurant Chez Aïcha Timlalt, a local gem known for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. We sat on a terrace overlooking the Dades Gorge and enjoyed a delicious tagine. The tagine was flavorful, with tender meat and perfectly cooked vegetables. The mint tea was refreshing, and the overall experience was delightful. The restaurant is known for its generous portions and low prices. The service was also very pleasant.

I chatted with Aïcha herself, learning about her family's history in the valley and her passion for cooking. She reminded me of my own grandmother, who always cooked with love and shared her recipes with everyone.

Evening Drinks at CAFE RESTAURANT ROOFTOP ATLAS DADES

As the sun began to set, we headed to CAFE RESTAURANT ROOFTOP ATLAS DADES for a relaxing evening. From the rooftop, we had a stunning view of the valley bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. I sipped on a refreshing drink and reflected on the day's adventures. The bar offered delightful Moroccan and international delicacies.

The rooftop setting provided exquisite views of the Atlas Mountains. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the staff was friendly. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the Dades Valley.

Dinner at Auberge Chez Pierre

For dinner, we indulged in a meal at Auberge Chez Pierre. The auberge had a very nice setting. The restaurant offered a great variety of original and refined dishes. The property is beautifully located to experience Dades Valley. The property is a peaceful oasis amid the red and ochre landscapes.

The innovative cuisine fuses European and Moroccan flavors. The staff was very hospitable. The views were amazing. It was a real surprise and an absolute delight. The location was incredible.

As I enjoyed the delicious food and the company of my friends, I felt a sense of gratitude for this incredible experience. Morocco had already exceeded my expectations, and I knew that the days to come would be even more amazing.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Monkey Paw Mountains and the Monkey Fingers Canyon. I'm excited to see these geological wonders up close and capture more stunning photos. We'll have breakfast at Cafe restaurant Des Amis, lunch at Restaurant Dar Ahlam Dades, and dinner at Chez Pierre again. I'm also looking forward to visiting the ORINO SHOP [sic], where I hope to find some unique souvenirs to bring back home.

As I settle in for the night, I can't help but feel a sense of excitement for the adventures that lie ahead. Dades Valley is a truly magical place, and I'm so grateful to be here with my friends, exploring its beauty and immersing myself in its rich culture. Good night from Morocco!
