A Day of Firsts in the City of Lights

Today was a day dedicated to beginnings, to innovation, and to soaking in the unique atmosphere that Lyon offers. It was a day of exploring where cinema was born, strolling along the river that has shaped the city's identity, and indulging in the culinary delights that make Lyon a gastronomic capital. It's amazing to think that so much history and culture can be packed into a single day!

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Léon de Lyon. I must admit I was expecting sushi, given the name, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a traditional Lyonnaise breakfast menu. It was a delightful start, fueling me up for a day of exploration. I savored every bite, thinking about how Lyon has been nourishing its people for centuries.

My first stop was the Musée Lumière. As a tech enthusiast, I’ve always been fascinated by the history of innovation, and what better place to delve into it than at the birthplace of cinema? The museum is located in the former home of the Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis, the very place where they invented the cinematograph. It was surreal to walk through the rooms where these pioneers conceived of and developed the technology that would revolutionize storytelling.

The museum itself is a treasure trove of artifacts, early films, and interactive exhibits. I was particularly struck by the original cinematograph, a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the Lumière brothers. Seeing the first short films ever created, like Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory, was an emotional experience. It’s humbling to realize that what started here in Lyon has evolved into the global phenomenon that cinema is today. I even learned about their contributions to color photography, which was something I wasn’t aware of. The Musée Lumière isn’t just a museum; it’s a celebration of human creativity and technological advancement.

The true spirit of innovation lies in the relentless pursuit of new ideas, regardless of the obstacles.

After immersing myself in the world of cinema, I decided to take a leisurely stroll along the Quais de Saône. The Saône River has always been the lifeblood of Lyon, shaping its history, economy, and culture. Walking along the quays, I felt a deep connection to the city's past and present. The architecture along the riverfront is stunning, a mix of historic buildings and modern structures that reflect Lyon's evolution over the centuries.

The sun was shining, and the atmosphere was vibrant. People were out enjoying the day, strolling, cycling, and simply soaking in the beauty of their city. I paused to watch a group of students sketching the buildings across the river, their easels set up along the quay. It was a quintessential Lyon scene, a blend of art, history, and everyday life. I even spotted some people participating in the Lyon Outdoor Escape Game: Fourvière Hill Highlights, which seemed like a fun way to explore the area.

For lunch, I ventured into L'acteur - Bouchon Lyonnais, a traditional Lyonnaise restaurant. I was eager to try some of the local cuisine, and I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a warm atmosphere that made me feel right at home. I ordered the *quenelle*, a classic Lyonnaise dish made of fish or chicken, cream, and eggs. It was rich, flavorful, and utterly delicious. It was the perfect meal to warm me up on a cool March afternoon.

In the evening, I had dinner at La Table d'Eugène. The ambiance was elegant yet welcoming, and the menu featured innovative takes on classic French dishes. I opted for the *truite*, which was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The service was impeccable, and the entire experience was a culinary delight. It was the perfect way to end a day of cultural and gastronomic exploration.

Finally, before heading back to L’Académie Hôtel Lyon, I decided to experience Lyon's nightlife at L'Officine, a bar known for its creative cocktails. The bar had a unique atmosphere, with dim lighting, plush seating, and a lively buzz of conversation. The bartender was a true mixologist, crafting drinks that were as beautiful as they were delicious. I ordered a signature cocktail, a concoction of gin, elderflower liqueur, and grapefruit juice. It was the perfect nightcap, a refreshing and flavorful end to a memorable day.

As I sipped my cocktail, I reflected on the day's adventures. From the birthplace of cinema to the vibrant Quais de Saône, Lyon had revealed its many layers, each more fascinating than the last. I felt a deep appreciation for this city, its history, its culture, and its people. It was a day of firsts, a day of discovery, and a day that I will always cherish.

Tomorrow, I plan to delve deeper into Lyon’s architectural wonders, exploring the Traboule “Maison du Crible – Tour Rose” and the Fresque des Lyonnais. I’m also looking forward to indulging in more of Lyon’s culinary scene, with breakfast at Table et Partage, lunch at Restaurant A Ma Vigne, and dinner at La Table 101. And of course, I’ll be sure to pick up a souvenir at Silk Saint Georges. Until then, *à bientôt*!

It’s interesting to note that today was also St. Patrick's Day, and while I didn’t participate in any specific celebrations, I did notice some people wearing green and a general festive atmosphere in the city. Perhaps I’ll find a way to celebrate tomorrow!

Lyon continues to surprise and enchant me. Each day brings new discoveries and new experiences. I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore this amazing city and to share my adventures with you. Until next time!

I really miss Fatoumata, Aminata and Ibrahim. I am planning to take them to Lyon next time, perhaps during summer.
