A Day of Discovery in Ras Muhammad
Today marked the sixth day of my solo journey through Ras Muhammad National Park, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The blend of historical intrigue and natural beauty here is simply captivating. From the heights of a historic lighthouse to the serene shores of a unique salt lake, today was a testament to the park's diverse offerings.
My day began, as most have here, with a hearty breakfast at Osprey Ras Mohamed. It's become a comforting ritual, fueling up with familiar tastes before venturing into the unknown. The staff are always so welcoming, and the view overlooking the Red Sea never gets old.
With a full stomach, I set off to explore El Fanar Lighthouse. The lighthouse stands proudly, a beacon of beauty overlooking the azure waters of the Red Sea. As an antique shop owner, I'm naturally drawn to historical landmarks, and El Fanar certainly didn't disappoint. It has guided countless sailors since its establishment. The panoramic view of the coastline was breathtaking, offering a perfect spot for photography and quiet contemplation. The lighthouse itself isn’t ancient like the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but it stands as a testament to maritime history.

Wandering around the lighthouse, I imagined the countless ships it had guided safely through these waters. It’s easy to see why this area is so popular; the blend of history and natural beauty is irresistible. I spent a good hour simply soaking in the scenery, feeling a sense of connection to the generations of seafarers who had relied on this very beacon.
The beauty of Ras Muhammad lies not just in its vibrant coral reefs, but also in its ability to transport you through time and immerse you in the wonders of nature.
After exploring the lighthouse, I decided to visit Saline Lake. This natural lagoon, located about 200 meters inland from the Mangrove Channel, is known for its high salinity and therapeutic properties. The almost magical blue color of the lake was striking against the backdrop of the desert landscape.

I waded into the lake, and the buoyancy was incredible. It felt like floating in another world. Apparently, the lake's salinity is even greater than that of the Red Sea. I spent a blissful hour relaxing in the calm waters, letting the salt work its magic. It was the perfect way to soothe my muscles after days of hiking and exploring. It reminded me of the Dead Sea, though on a smaller scale, and without the throngs of tourists.
As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, I made my way back to Osprey Ras Mohamed for dinner. The restaurant was buzzing with activity, filled with travelers sharing stories of their day's adventures. I opted for a grilled fish, savoring the fresh flavors as I watched the sky transform into a canvas of orange and pink. The restaurant offers a variety of delicious seafood and local dishes, crafted with care and served with a view that rivals any postcard. The casual yet inviting ambiance allowed me to relax and soak up the natural surroundings.
With the evening still young, I decided to venture out to Latinos Bar for a nightcap. I was hoping for a taste of local nightlife and perhaps a chance to meet some fellow travelers. The bar was lively, with music and laughter filling the air. I ordered a local beer and struck up a conversation with a couple from Italy, sharing stories of our travels and experiences in Egypt. Latinos Bar seems like a crazy and comfortable place, offering darts and karaoke.

As I sipped my drink, I couldn't help but reflect on the day's adventures. From the historical heights of El Fanar Lighthouse to the therapeutic waters of Saline Lake, Ras Muhammad had once again exceeded my expectations. The park's ability to blend history, nature, and relaxation is truly remarkable.
Tomorrow, I plan to explore Il Lago Magico and Crepa Sismica. I've heard whispers of their unique beauty, and I'm eager to uncover their secrets. I also intend to visit the Center Nile Pharaohs Bazaar. Who knows what treasures I might find? I am excited to see what tomorrow brings.
As I prepare for another day of exploration, I am reminded of the simple joys of solo travel. The freedom to wander, to discover, and to connect with the world around me is a gift I will always cherish. Good night from Ras Muhammad National Park.
Until tomorrow,
Tanaka Hiroshi
