Solo Exploration of Ras Muhammad National Park
Day 12: Farewell to Ras Muhammad: A Solo Traveler's Reflections
Reflecting on a transformative solo journey through Egypt's Ras Muhammad National Park, a blend of natural beauty and personal discovery.
A Final Glimpse of Paradise
As my journey through Ras Muhammad National Park draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the profound impact this solo adventure has had on me. It's not just the stunning landscapes or the vibrant marine life that I'll carry with me, but the quiet moments of self-discovery that have reshaped my perspective. This trip has been a reminder of the beauty of solitude and the importance of connecting with nature.
Today, my final day in Ras Muhammad, was a bittersweet symphony of exploration and farewells. The sun rose with a familiar brilliance, casting a golden hue over the tranquil waters of the Red Sea. I started my day with a hearty breakfast at Osprey Ras Mohamed. I have come to appreciate this culinary oasis amidst the natural reserve. Their offerings of seafood and local dishes always provided a delightful start to my days.

After breakfast, I decided to revisit the ‘Beautiful place’ I had discovered earlier in the trip. It felt right to spend my last hours in the park immersed in its serene beauty. The gentle lapping of the waves against the shore, the warmth of the sun on my skin – it was a moment of pure bliss. I sat there for a long time, sketching in my travel journal, trying to capture the essence of this magical place. I am not an artist, but I find that the act of trying to draw something helps me to see it more clearly. It is a practice I started when Erika and I would visit gardens in Europe. I find it equally rewarding here in Egypt.

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.
Later in the morning, I made my way to the Ras Mohamed Nature Reserve, wanting to absorb every last detail of its unique ecosystem. I wandered along the coast, observing the diverse birdlife and the intricate patterns of the coral reefs just beneath the surface. I thought about Lena, and how she would marvel at the colours of the fish. I made a mental note to bring her here one day. Perhaps Erika would enjoy a trip back to Egypt as well. I would have to convince her to leave her books behind, if only for a little while.

For lunch, I returned to Osprey Ras Mohamed, drawn by the promise of fresh seafood and stunning views. I savored each bite, knowing it would be my last meal here for a while. The restaurant was bustling with activity, tourists from all corners of the globe eager to experience the culinary delights of the Red Sea. I overheard snippets of conversations in various languages, each one a testament to the universal appeal of this place. The weather in September is ideal for outdoor dining, with daytime temperatures ranging from 30°C to 36°C and plenty of sunshine. The sea temperature is also perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
In the afternoon, I decided to indulge in one last snorkeling session. I rented some gear and plunged into the crystal-clear waters, eager to bid farewell to the vibrant marine life that had captivated me throughout my stay. As I swam among the colorful fish and intricate coral formations, I felt a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to witness such natural beauty. The Red Sea Reef is truly a wonder to behold, and I felt privileged to have experienced it firsthand.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the landscape, I made my way to Champions Cafe & Pub. I wanted to experience the local nightlife before departing, and this spot came highly recommended. The pub was lively and inviting, with a mix of locals and tourists mingling and enjoying the evening. I ordered a refreshing drink and soaked in the atmosphere, listening to the music and watching the world go by. I thought of Erika, and how she would have enjoyed people-watching here. Perhaps next time, I will not be traveling solo.

For my final dinner, I chose Osprey Ras Mohamed once again. I enjoyed a quiet meal, reflecting on my journey and savoring the flavors of Egypt. The staff were warm and welcoming, making me feel like a regular even though it was only my third visit. As I finished my meal, I raised a glass in a silent toast to Ras Muhammad, thanking it for the memories and the lessons it had taught me.
As I prepare to leave Ras Muhammad, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. This solo trip has been an incredible experience, one that has allowed me to connect with nature, explore a new culture, and discover a deeper understanding of myself. I will always cherish the memories I’ve made here, and I know that I will carry the spirit of Ras Muhammad with me wherever I go. The park's diverse landscapes, from the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea to the rugged desert terrain, have left an indelible mark on my soul.
Looking ahead, my journey takes me back to Germany, a bittersweet return to familiar comforts after the raw beauty of Egypt. There are no scheduled activities for tomorrow, as the trip concludes. I plan to carry the tranquility and inspiration I found here back to my antique shop in Heidelberg, hoping to infuse a bit of the Red Sea’s vibrant energy into my daily life. Perhaps I’ll even find a few new treasures inspired by my travels to add to my collection. I am eager to see Erika and share my stories with her.
Until next time, Ras Muhammad. Shukran.
P.S. I almost forgot to mention! On my way back from snorkeling, I spotted a group of tourists gathered around a local guide who was pointing out the constellations in the night sky. It was a clear night, and the stars were shining with exceptional brilliance. I joined the group for a few minutes, listening to the guide as he shared stories about the ancient Egyptians and their fascination with the cosmos. It was a fitting end to my journey, a reminder of the rich history and culture that permeates every corner of this land.
