Museo Carmen Thyssen Malaga

Since 1992 the Thyssen family's art collection has been on display at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. However, Carmen Thyssen has been an art collector in her own right since the 1980s, and her personal collection is shown separately across the most beautiful cities in Spain. In 1999, she agreed to display many items from her collection in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum for a period of twelve years. Meanwhile, a home for her collection was sought in Málaga. This museum, a conversion of a sixteenth-century building, opened to the public on 24 March 2011. The Carmen Thyssen Museum of Malaga is dedicated to conservation, research and the dissemination of the Carmen Thyssen Collection in order to emphasize the value of Spanish painting, especially that of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, fully referenced in its historical and artistic context, for the understanding of all audiences, which forms part of Malaga's strategy as a cultural city.

Great Museum if your are interested in the great masters / fin de siecle with a lot of Spanish paintings on 3 floors. Very well curated and brought togheter with a storyline on each entrance per floor. Can recommend.

Well curated exhibition of Spanish art in a lovely building. Particular focus on 19th to early 20th century. Many paintings of Andalusia and the local angle made it interesting to see how places have changed. For example, the sea front at Estepona with nothing there but scenery. Spent about an hour here and enjoyed it.

We enjoyed our visit to this museum. A lovely selection of art, much of it from Spain. Very well displayed over 4 floors, plenty of space to look around. Well worth a visit.

Check if free on Sundays after 4pm if so get there early as the queue grows very rapidly. There are plenty of paintings to look at and it is well worth a visit.

Varied and interesting museum with a very nice collection of dismiss art works. Clean and modern surroundings and not too crowded. Worth noting it is free entry for a few hours each Sunday.

Didn’t know where to go, but happy TripAdvisor steered us here. Real art and focused on Andalusia. Ages 12, 16, 19, 19, adults. Nice gift site too. Deal for arriving after 2:30 too!

Enjoyed the first floor the most. This is my kind of art, very little modern art interest me. Miss Spain sure had a magnificent collection!

Amazing array of paintings in a well displayed and airy series of spaces. It was a Saturday afternoon when I visited and the tranquility converging with the beauty of the art made my visit even more compelling. What a wonderful place.

So I love the big London galleries and this is much more like that but with a bit of modern art thrown at the end but it was photographic art on our visit so relatively easy to relatively to. As this gallery is part of a group there is a fair bit sharing of pieces so will be a changing of exhibits. The periods and subjects covered felt well judged and really picked out the uniqueness driving the Spanish and Andalusian art when the paintings were created. I suspect the devoted could easily spend 4 hours taking it all it. There is a lot of good stuff to see and if you're around Sunday afternoon it's free

Worth to visit as incredibly rich collection of paintings we were amazed by the quality of the images reproduced by Spanish painters of the past. A very rich collection of paintings, many by artists from Andalusia and both Impressionists and painters from the 18th and 19th century. We were amazed by the quality of the images reproduced by the Spanish painters of the past, their technique in making characters, objects and backgrounds appear three-dimensional
