Here is our top options for hen parties looking to book something sporty, competitive and fun!

1. Netball

Netball is a classic sport for hen parties as so many of your guide would have played at some point in their life.

In some countries at some point in their sports education children are split into boys play basketball and girls play netball – which sounds crazy in the modern world!

But if your group of girl’s played netball at school and college then book a court, and hey if basketball is your thing, then book the court and just change the rules.

2. Fencing

In the modern world fencing or sword fighting is an Olympic sport, but traditionally stemmed from how people trained for battle, and is a great energetic sport for a hen party.

Think about the female fictional characters of Beatrix Kiddo from the Kill Bill movies, Rey from Star Wars, Lagertha from Vikings TV show, Michonne from The Walking Dead box set and Arya Stark of Game of Thrones fame and let the hen party battle commence.
3. Wakeboarding

Perhaps for your hen party you group would like to try and new sport, and if you are heading for the water, you could book a session of wakeboarding.

Wakeboarding is a water sport where the rider stands on the board and towed either by a motorboat or machinery around a lake or stretch of water, perhaps even performing a jump or two.
4. Dodgeball

Dodgeball is a team sport in which players on two teams try to throw balls and hit opponents, whilst avoiding being hit themselves, and rose to fame with the 2004 Adam Sandler movie.

All you need is a court or space, plenty of balls, and willing contestants. Remember in the heat of the game that it’s just a game and later you can celebrate winning or losing with a few drinks at the bar!

5. Sports day

Everyone remembers the fun that was school sports day; lots of different games, challenges, and a whole load of laughs!

An old school sports day is perfect for an active hen party where participants can get involved in egg and spoon races, three legged races, and tug of war games.

The great thing about having a mix of sports and games is that everyone in the group must be good at something, and hopefully everyone will win a game or two.

6. Climbing

Climbing is a sport that has truly hit the heights in recent years, and has become a popular activity for hen parties.

For the very adventurous hen groups you can look at a break away and look to attempt climbing a mountain or an ice wall, but in many urban areas you can book a session of indoor wall climbing.

There are many fantastic custom built climbing centres where your group can climb for a few hours under the watchful eye of an instructor, before hitting the local bars for a few drinks and a dance.

7. Golf

If you think golf is a sport played by middle aged men in checked trousers, where you must have all the right equipment and be a member of a club then think again!

There are now so many so funky variations of golf that you can play during your hen party. Consider booking an outdoor crazy golf venue, or even one of new mini golf bars where you can play whilst having a few cocktails.

Consider new variants of golf such as foot golf or disc golf where you kick or throw a ball/disc at the golf flags, great fun and great for fitness at the same time.

8. Surfing

Many hens consider having a hen weekend at the beach to combine a nice break with a spot of sunshine and chilling by the sea.

Why not combine this short holiday with a few surfing lessons?

Learn a new skill, enjoy the water, and it will make some great pictures for Instagram! Your hen group will feel refreshed, energised, and ready for the party in the evening.

9. Rafting

White water rafting is perhaps the most extreme sports you can experience for a hen party day. Your group will be provided with the safety kit and a trained guide to help your traverse down the river or rafting centre.

White water rafting is an amazing experience that will create fantastic memories, that you will enjoy discussing at the wedding and beyond. Just remember to leave some to get changed into your party outfits!
10. Cycling

They say that “once you learn to ride a bicycle, you never forget”, and if that is your hen party group why not enjoy some cycling as an activity for your hen party?

Great for fitness and you can see an area in a new way.

Many urban areas have bicycle hire schemes allowing you to see the sights, but also many professional bike companies around the country will have bikes you can hire for a day or few hours, and even provide a guide or route for you to get the best out of the experience.
