Your Itinerary

The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

This is home to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Celtic Connections - the world's biggest winter music festival. While here, we time travel back and hear tales from the heyday of the Empire. A former neighbour of the Concert Hall, the Empire is long gone but its fierce reputation for having the UK's most critical and passionate audience lives on.

The Pavilion Theatre

The Pavillion has hosted everyone from Houdini and Charlie Chaplin to Sydney Devine, Glasgow's very own rhinestone cowboy. The former Odeon gets a mention here. First and foremost a cinema, it was also a stomping ground for bands like The Beatles, Little Richard and The Rolling Stones.

Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

At the Conservatoire, your guide has plenty of stories about associated hobbits, Outlander stars, Dr Who actors and even Bob Dylan, an unlikely fan of the bagpipes.

Nice 'n' Sleazy

The tour pauses at Nice 'n' Sleazy, a big-hearted dive bar that plays an instrumental part in nurturing young talent. As well as offering the opportunity for guests to buy a refreshment, Sleazy's is where we tell visitors all the rock 'n' roll legends from the late, lamented Apollo. It is also where guests hear about the changing sounds of Sauchiehall Street, an area that has been the city's night-time playground for decades.

King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut

The Music Mile tour finishes at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut where you have the opportunity to follow in the early footsteps of Oasis, Blur and the Manic Street Preachers. Depending on access, there may be the chance to stand under the lights at King Tut’s and grab a selfie on the stage that helped launch so many great acts.

I am really glad we picked up this tour on our short trip to Glasgow. Super interesting and the tour guide, Fiona, was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Loved visiting King Tuts where so many of my favourite bands launched themselves. Definitely planning on the morning tour when we are next over.

A solid look at the deep music scene, covering everything from the jazz greats to Beatles, Buzzcocks, Nazareth, Simple Minds, The Cure, Oasis, even Susan Boyle, and many more all in between. Our guide was an engaging storyteller with great humor and plenty of local vernacular that kept the group smiling. The tour takes you by the famous music theaters, performing arts schools, and into a couple of the music clubs including the famous King Tuts Wah Wah. If you’re a music art lover of any sort, this is a must do.

Brilliant walking tour with a very knowledgeable host. Very nostalgic bringing back all our personal memories of the gigs we had seen growing up in Glasgow. I’d recommend that it you have a spare couple of hours, this is well worth the money. Phil (P6) was excellent.

We went on the afternoon tour with our guide Phil. So knowledgeable about the music scene in Glasgow, and all the venues, complete with many anecdotes. A great introduction to music in the City, thoroughly entertaining.

I went in the music mile tour on 10th June. I can't remember the name of the guide unfortunately but she was fantastic. Very immersed in the subject and really went into great detail on every aspect of the tour. It made me realise how very little I knew about the Glasgow music scene and it's history beforehand. I'm happy to say I now know quite a bit more than I did previously. There were only 6 of us on the tour this day. Although I liked the small group, I was very surprised there wasn't a larger group. Overall a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday. I have recommended the tour to friends.

For tours like these to work well you need to have a guide who is totally immersed in the subject matter, passionate about it, and able to communicate that enthusiasm to the audience. Phil was all of these things. The tour was a Father's Day gift from my sons which I was really looking forward to and it certainly lived up to expectations. Back in the day I used to be a regular visitor to the Apollo, and latterly the ABC, the Garage and King Tut's, and I thought I was pretty well-versed in the music history of Glasgow. However Phil's knowledge of the international impact of Scotland's, and of Glasgow's musical exports was eye-opening. The tales of the treatment of visiting artists (depending on whether the crowd liked you or not) by audiences from the times of Glasgow's industrial heydays he recounted are the stuff of legend, and his inside stories of the local music scene and anecdotes about some famous musical names added plenty more humour to the day. Not sure that non-Weegies would be able to keep up with all of this pure gold patter, but it was a total belter of an afternoon out for us. Thank you Phil!

Fiona was a fantastic guide to the Glasgow music scene. She brought a depth of knowledge and a passion for the many musical artists and bands who have performed in Glasgow. We knew we would enjoy this walking tour, but it exceeded our expectations!
