But our guides have crafted a custom route through the museum that packs in all the best bits without leaving you lost for hours in its labyrinthine corridors.

We’ll then head to perhaps the most famous part of the Holy city - the Sistine Chapel. It’s from this fabled building that the mysterious white smoke rises upon the selection of a new pope. And it’s also the home of Michalangelo’s masterpiece ‘The Last Judgement’. Walking through here - in silence, as the laws state - is a truly magical experience.

This was an exceptional tour! Maria was an excellent guide! She saved a bit of time outside of the museum by sharing an overview before we entered. This was a smart move because inside was crowded and you were required to move way too fast to take all of the information in once inside. Maria was so knowledgeable, sharing the rich history of Rome, the Catholic church, and detailed contributions of artists’ works displayed throughout the museums and Sistine Chapel. The historical overview was amazing and kept the interest of my pre-teen. It was very hot (August) so the skip-the-line admission was worth every penny! Definitely recommend!

Our tour guide, Barbara, was fantastic! She gave us interesting facts about the artwork, political, and life at the Vatican without overwhelming you with facts. Even the kids mostly enjoyed it (16, 13, 13, & 10). Definitely book a tour to skip the long, hot line. Since we were a much smaller group, we were also able to sneak in front of the larger tour groups for better views of things in the museums. We would definitely use Carpe Diem tours again.

Susanna (spelling?) was an amazing tour guide. We had our 5 year old with us and she found ways to include him in the tour. She lead us at a great pace and took breaks so we could take photos and sit while we spoke. She also pointed out the best spots for photos and shade so we could listen in comfort. The detail she took to explain the Sistine Chapel ahead of seeing it made understanding what we were looking at much more gratifying. I highly recommend her as a tour guide and Carpe Diem in general.

Our guide today was, I think, Katerina… She kept a great pace, and give some fascinating insights to what we were seeing… which was beautiful, and often left me speechless, especially the Sistine Chapel… Our second tour in two days (Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum yesterday), and really pleased I chose Carpe Diem for them. Well organised, and great tour guides on both, thank you!1
