Your Itinerary

Gallerie Degli Uffizi

(Pass by)

Start your private tour at Uffizi Square in the lovely Tuscan capital of Florence. Step back in time to one of the most fascinating periods in Florence’s history: the Renaissance. Learn about Florentines like Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Donatello, and Machiavelli who greatly contributed to shaping western thought and culture during this fascinating period.

Piazza della Signoria

Explore Piazza Della Signoria, the center of political life in Florence since the 14th century that also hosts the prominent Palazzo Vecchio. This very square witnessed some of the key episodes of Florentine history, like the return of the Medici in 1530. Or The Bonfire of the Vanities instigated by Savonarola, who was then himself burned at the stake there in 1498. We will have the opportunity to discuss the delicate relationship between art and power and the contribution of the Medici family in turning Florence into the cradle of the Renaissance.

Ponte Vecchio

A short stroll away are the pint-sized jewelry shops of Ponte Vecchio. As you gaze upon the wide River Arno, you'll learn how this medieval bridge was intended to be an important city defense. Listen to the fascinating tale about the bridge’s hidden passageway that was built for the wealthy Cosimo de Medici I. He was then transported in a small horse-drawn carriage from the offices in the Palazzo Vecchio to the family home in the Pitti Palace without having to mingle with the common people of Florence!

Piazza della Repubblica

Absorb 2,000 years of history as you visit the Roman Forum, now the Piazza Della Repubblica. Take time to look up at the awe-inspiring sculptures under the Loggia Dei Lanzi. Admire the surrounding architecture, and discover the artistic and architectural achievements of the Florentines during the Renaissance. Stroll by Orsanmichele and find out how medieval crafts were turned into Renaissance artistic leadership.

Mercato Centrale

(Pass by)

Your guide will point out the Mercato Centrale, one of the food havens of Florence. Take a mental note to return in your free time.

Oltrarno

Discover lesser-known spots, such as the artisanal Oltrarno Quarter, where you will spot some wonderful backstreet cafes and delis to return to later. Dive down narrow passageways to emerge in quiet quarters of the city where everyday life goes on at an unhurried pace. We end our tour outside Palazzo Pitti.

Piazza del Duomo

Take in the beauty of the buildings nesting around the Duomo in the heart of Florence. Understand how different buildings like the Cathedral with Brunelleschi's Dome, the Baptistry, and Giotto's tower all relate to each other.
