As you join your small group, you'll immediately skip past the regular line, granting you exclusive access to the Vatican Museums before the general public. Vatican Museums

Highlights of the Vatican Museums As you continue your journey through the Vatican, you'll find yourself strolling through the magnificent and tranquil courtyard, seemingly untouched by the bustling crowds. Your next stop will be the main galleries of the Vatican, including the mesmerizing Gallery of the Candelabra, the enchanting Gallery of the Tapestries, and the captivating Gallery of the Maps. These extraordinary galleries house a treasure trove of remarkable sculptures, paintings, tapestries, and meticulously crafted maps, each with its own rich history and significance. Among these incredible galleries, our personal favorite is the Gallery of the Maps. Dating back almost 300 years prior to the unification of Italy, the exquisite frescoes within this gallery offer a glimpse into the geography of the Italian peninsula as it stood in the year 1580. Prepare to be transported back in time as your guide shares the fascinating stories behind each map.

Sistine Chapel

MIchelangelo's Sistine Chapel One of the most iconic experiences in Vatican City is visiting the Sistine Chapel, and once you step inside, you'll understand why. It's no wonder that this masterpiece is revered as one of the greatest works of art in Western civilization. Since the chapel is a sacred place of worship, speaking is not allowed inside, and your guide won't be able to provide commentary while you're there. But fear not, they'll provide commentary before entering ensuring that you're fully prepared to take in all the wonders of the Sistine Chapel. To gain entry into the Sistine Chapel, both men and women must ensure that their knees and shoulders are covered. Failure to comply might result in the Vatican denying entry to religious sites. We understand that the Roman summers can be scorching, so a great alternative is to bring a shawl, scarf, or sweater with you. Get ready to be spellbound by the sheer grandeur of the Sistine Chapel!

Admission Included

We got access to short cuts and limited access places throughout the tour that bypassed others during this 11 hour experience. The lunch was in a wonderful open-air pavilion at the gorgeous, gorgeous Castel Gandolfo. Totally worth it. Bring a small or medium backpack to keep everything with you instead of checking it into the luggage area where you won’t return to at the end of the tour. There’s lots of walking, some hills and stairs so if you have orthopedic issues, be wary. Although it was more crowded in the Vatican museums (first part of the tour) than we thought it would be with the early start at 7:30am, it was still fine. The tour guides were very knowledgeable (Valentina) with an art history focus, while Barbara was warm and friendly at Castel Gandolfo and town, which was the second half of the tour. We were accompanied by the same assistant the whole time who was also wonderful- but I didn’t get the correct spelling of her name. We went on 9/22/2023, traveling with my husband and our 13-year old who is totally not fond of museums… but had to go of course. This would be a challenging day with young children if they are not interested in museums, and it was a challenge at times for our largely uninterested teenager. But still, we went and at last 2 out of 3 of us enjoyed ourselves greatly!

Worth every penny! Saw the Museums, Sistine Chapel, Gardens, Barberini gardens, got lunch, saw the Pope's summer residence, and a little free time to roam Castel Goffredo! Genuinely worth it. Got in places pretty fast too!

There are a lot of yours in Rome. This is the best, most exclusive tour available. Personal tour through the Vatican, including skip the other tour lines, the Vatican Gardens tour, a train ride to the Pope’s summer palace including a private guide there, lunch in the gardens and a guided tour of those gardens. While other tours may offer a version of this, the Tour Guy/Roman Guy provided a dedicated guide through the day, which brought us to those tour guides, and got us back on the correct papal train to return to Rome. Why was this important? 30 other people who were sent up without a private guide to meet a different guide got on the wrong train to return to Rome. While OUR guide (Rebekka) got us on the RIGHT Train, knows the guides and Vatican escorts and made our tour a lovely day even though it rained. She is knowledgeable, dedicated and persuasive when needed. Thank you Rebekka! This was the best tour we took while in Rome.

We had to cancel - had 3 attempts but TripAdvisor could not be contacted. Their ‘Roman man’ did not answer the phone on the 2 occasions I tried. TripAdvisor still kept the money.

We booked this tour through Vatican Museums (not The Roman Guy), and it was horrible. Arrived on time and was admitted through the Vatican Museums entrance where we were given a sticker and offered audio headsets. After that, we were on our own with only directions to meeting point for the train. After the morning in the Vatican Museums, we went to the designated meeting point with our 89 year old mother. Herded like cattle into groups and then led on a walking, winding, uphill climb through the Vatican gardens. When asked if we could take our mother directly to the train (and skip the winding, uphill climb), we were told no. So, we struggled to make our way up and down finally arriving at the train where we were ushered to the last car where the steps were lower. The train ride was less than expected....finally arriving at a train station outside of the town of Gandolfo. We were again ushered like cattle onto open air shuttle buses for the ride to town and into the gardens of the summer residence. Instead of enjoying a personal, informative, and relaxing garden tour, we were given handheld audio recorders which required us to change channels constantly to hear any kind of narrative. By the time we were on the proper channel, the bus had passed the described scene. Afterwards, we were deposited at a plastic covered pavilion for "lunch." Cold food covered in plastic wrap was already positioned on each table of 8 along with 2 bottles of wine and a bottle of water with plastic utensils. Self-serve cold lunch shared amongst complete strangers. When finished, we were required to stay there and not allowed to walk among the beautiful gardens. finally, another shuttle bus arrived to take us to the actual town of Gandolfo and the residence where we were given the option to pay for a tour of the palace or free time in town. At the appointed time, we gathered at the designated meeting point where we waited and waited for the bus. AGAIN herded onto shuttle buses for the drive to a train station. We were literally deposited at yet a different train station which was closed (no restroom, snacks, water, conductor, nothing!). We sat on a desserted loading platform as sun set. Finally the train arrived, but not the private train that brought us from Vatican City. This was the public subway train. It stopped at several stations before arriving at San Pietro station where another guest informed us we should depart. The tour "guide" was nowhere to be found. At dusk, we were stranded at a different location in Rome without any guidance and therefore forced to find our way to a taxi stand or some other means back to our hotel. I've never been so disappointed in a tour as this one purchased through Vatican Museums! It was a terribly long day spent mostly waiting on buses, trains, and lunch. Not much in the way of sightseeing.

Very disappointed. Vatican Museums and Castle Gandolfo tour (June 18th, group 3) was a lot of wasted time. Started 1 hour later, then rushed in Vatican, finally had only 30 min free time and waited 1,5 hour in bus and train before leaving. Not professional.

What an amazing experience - a very special day. Our guide, Andrea, was beyond exceptional. She enjoyed the day which made her feel more like a friend than a guide. If you have a full day to dedicate to this trip I would 1,000% recommend, the Bernini Gardens in Castel Gandolfo are breathtaking.

Perhaps one of the best days of my "30 days in Rome" journey! Beginning at the Vatican Museums including the Sistine Chapel, continuing through Vatican Gardens, then onto the train for an hour's scenic ride to Castel Gandolfo (adjacent to Lake Albano), lunch from locally sourced items, a beautiful walk through the Barberini Gardens, and up the hill to tour the many rooms of the Castel, finishing with a relaxing train trip back to Rome. This was not just a guided tour, but a historic seminar given by the docent Erik (Erik with a K). Worthy of college credit! For me personally, Chiara, our tour coordinator, was SO helpful, friendly and efficient! Cannot recommend this strongly enough. Just remember--it's a FULL day!

We had Marco as our guide and he was awesome (and pretty darn funny too)! The tour saved time and was very informative and a great value

We enjoyed a wonderful Vatican Tour. Our tour guide, Jamona, provided a great overview of the sites. She was friendly, accessible and provided solid answers to our questions. We very much enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend the tour.
