This tour was not as advertised. What I did get was bullying messages and texts from multiple numbers for a week after the tour to pay an additional 240 euros - over the $527 we pre-paid - because of the tour company's errors. First, the night before the tour, they changed the meeting point from the Milan Central Station to Garda station. Since train tickets from Milan X 2 were not included in the pkg, and given the time loss, hassle and cost of last minute tickets, I was backing out. Then they offered to send a car service to our hotel in Milan, with an added stop in Bergamo, for an extra 240 euro cost to me. Sounded reasonable at the time. Once in the car, however, we asked the driver if he was the guide for Garda. He made a call and said he was. Some guide: All he did was drop us in parking lots in Bergamo and Garda, for 2 hours each, and told us to Google any info we needed while he stayed with the car. Upon return to Milan, I contacted the tour company to complain that we had no "local guide" in Garda as advertised, but all they did was demand that I pay the 240 euro for the car service (the driver didn't ask for it bc the tour company booked the car). Nope, not happening. If I had wanted to go to Garda without a guide I would have just taken the train, for far less than $527, or booked a car myself regardless of cost. I took 8 tours in Italy, 7 of which had 90% excellent ratings and had excellent experiences. This tour has one review now (red flag in itself), but the parent company, Yo Tours, has 50% less than excellent ratings, 10 of 30 which are poor. I am certain they will respond that I am in the wrong, but all I can say is: There was no local guide in Garda as advertised and no one offered to reimburse me $527 for that. I will be contacting Trip Advisor as well, as I'm pretty certain the phrase "in cahoots" came into play... to sub a driver for the lack of a local guide and I'd be none the wiser. Buyer Beware.

The holiday was organised by Riviera Travel but once we were at Lake Garda a local guide leader looked after us. He was known as Werner spoke fluent Italian, English and German i think. We flew there by British airways there and back to Milan. The travel there and back was awful as i will explain but the Ctual trip included two main destinations firstly to Venice & secondly to Verona. But nearly every day they took us somewhere different. I was looking forward to Venice but I was warned that it might be hard walking and i was particularly exhausted by the long journey and my illness (outbreak of diverticulitis involving diahroea and sickness) and agonising toothache so i stayed back at the lake Garda enjoying rest and recycling. The Hotel Cristallo Manager at Malcesine was wonderfully kind. Her name was Maria Genova? Grazia. She got me to a dentist by taxi driver (vigo Laurenzo) and the dentist saw me straight away and prescribed antibiotics stat. Which i obtained at the chemist nearby and i was back in time for supper.. The first proper food i had had since 2.30 am on a coach & boarding the plane at Heathrow for an 8.20 flight!. It was a long haul from Milan to lake Garda and i was desperate for the loo as i was having to clean myself off. The trip lady helped me find a toilet at the next hotel and we had and we had to run through the pouring rain to find it a long way from the coach. As you can imagine i was desperate and so weary.. You can see why the journey had been so terrible. We had had to amend our journey on the way out. Originally we were due to leave Heathrow Terminal 5 at 10.30 am but we were emailed the day before to say that we had to get an 8.20am flight. This meant amending my coach ticket from Cheltenham and my taxi to the cheltenham coach station. Once i got to heathrow terminal 5 the i had asked for help from the security to the boarding gate. Not as easy as it sounds as i could not find the assistance department because someone wl meaning gave me the wrong directions and i walked completely in the wrong direction and back. Once i was there they were helpful. Just i was already exhausted. Once we landed in Milan help was well organised by Riviera and they got me on and off the plane and to the bus..... At last we were in beautiful Italy with friendly and helpful staff. Back at the hotel the food was excellent breakfast and evening meal all so tasty. The waiting staff at table wrre all helpful particlar Gabriella. I was a little disappointed in the mountain view at Hotel Cristallo as you had to look over an untidy car par park. And bend in half to see the mountain. The bed and bathroom were satisfactory and cleaning was good. The terrace and bar area were pretty with flowers, Chaise longues are around the pool. The view of the sunset Tra moutto was gorgeous. Other trips was into Malcesine. A fairly long walk downhill but coming back was up hill so i had a taxi back via an ATM but this time the taxi driver was Andreas. Also very helpful. Trips to Riva were arranged by Werner. And he also took us to a Wine tasting and tour of the vinyard etc. A trip across the lake was pleasant and made it all lovely with fresh air with beautiful scenery. All came to an end too soon. I had a paddle in the pool and it had a deep end a shallow end. And i had not even read my holiday book! Once again the travel home was hard for all of us... 4-5 hours sitting in a hot airoplane as we missed our departure slot and did not leave until 5.30 pm. By the time we were back at heathrow we had nearly all missed our connections. I could not get anither coach until 10.10 in the evening! Arrived home at 12.30 am!! Lots of the problems were not British airways fault and the staff did their best. Terminal 5 National Express staff were nowhere to be seen. But a coach going to Central bus depot at Heathrow 2/3 took pitty on me. And once at terminal 2/3 tge staff were so helpful. They were probably all Sikhs as they wore turbans? Anyway despite all the issues i had a lovely experience of Italy inclding a fantadtic trip to Verona. Ehich i forgot to mention. Werner deserves special thanks for arranging a taxi for us oldies (age 69) at Verona.. All well thought out
