The beauty of the mosaics and the excellent education I received. Francesca was exceptional at teaching the group about the masonry, architectural, and artistic cues to the era we were learning about.

Sylvia is s wonderful guide, knowledgeable and personable. She showed us many things that would have been easy to miss and told interesting and funny stories related to the sights and artifacts..

This tour wasn't really my thing. I enjoyed seeing all the lovely mosaics but I got bored with so much talk about them. I would have liked talk about Ravenna whilst walking around the streets to learn more about it.

Our guide Marco was an amazing teacher, giving detailed information about the history, culture, religious meanings of each place we entered. His passion for history was evident and we enjoyed every moment of his presentation walk learning so much about the construction of each ancient building.

The tour is very well planned and guided, definitely highly recommended in Ravenna. The mosaics are magnificent and one is not prepared for what he's about to see! It is well suited for both history lovers as well as for those who just want to know something about the rich history of this marvelous town. Marco, the tour guide, is very experienced, educated and very good in transferring his knowledge, but also some of his interesting remarks about people who once ruled Ravenna. We enjoyed a lot and would definitely come back again one day and ask Marco to guide us through the streets of Ravenna.

Our guide Marco was the best and most passionate guide we have ever had. We learned so much! My only negative is that we bought the tour as a “from Bologna” tour - expecting the guide to meet us in Bologna, take us on the train, and get us to the starting point and home. Instead we got a message from Viator with a link to our train tickets for the 8:05 train and told we were on our own to take train and to make our way to the TI office in Ravenna, about 10 minutes away. It would’ve been much easier if we were told the tour starts at the TI office in Ravenna at 10:10, and we were on our own to get there.

This entire tour was well organized, had great communication from the tour organizer and we had a wonderful tour guide, Marco. I had questions on how to redeem the train tickets and I got quick clear responses from Laura. Marco was very clear on what he would be doing on the tour, how he’d be communicating with us and made sure we knew the times we had in each site. The tour sites themselves are magnificent, but we would not have gotten as much from them if we’d visited by ourselves. Marco’s commentary and storytelling was engaging, informative and enjoyable. He also gave us recommendations on other places to visit after the tour which was great.

What we liked about Bologna was that it was inundated with tourist. It's a city, but not driven by tourist like so many other places we visited. Look for the little cafes on the sidewalk. (Ask your hotels where.) They are wonderful. We loved the food and the friendliness of the people. We just wandered around plus took a day trip to Florence very inexpensively by the FAST train, only half an hour away. (Florence was more crowded than I have ever seen it. )

Ravenna is an incredible city. Our guide, Marco, is an expert in history and made out tour fun, interesting and full of knowledge.

Our guide was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She brought the ancient mosaics and the peoples who created them to life in a vibrant way. Highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in art history, antiquity, or early Christianity.
