Di Giovanna Tour in Sambuca di Sicilia & Degustazione di 5 Vini

This is a beautiful property with a brand new tasting room with amazing views over the hills in Sicily. We are lucky enough to spend quite some time in Sambuca and we can’t say enough good things about Gunther, Klaus, Melissa and the whole DiGiovanna family and operation. Please visit when you’re in Sicily, you won’t regret it! :)

The road up to the winery is not great, so it is slow going, but preserve, it is worth it. To begin the view is amazing. The tour, through the vineyards and the cellar, provides the history and philosophy of the winery. I have done many similar tours and this is a good one. We then did the tasting of five wines with many little bits of great food, cheeses, meat, bruschettas, etc. More than enough for lunch. The wines are all quite good. We bought some to drink on the rest of our trip and had some bottles shipped back to the US. Definitely get a reservation. This is a highly recommended stop.

I wanted to visit Di Giovanna as they produce wines and olive oils in my family name. I am not sure if there is a direct family relation, but it was fun to explore. The Di Giovanna’s were welcoming and gracious. I was shown photos of where the grapes and olives are grown, and they gave me some history of their origins. The wine tasting was elegant and they helped me ship wines and olive oils home. My shipment arrived the day after I got home from Sicily so my home is well stocked with many delicious wines from Di Giovanna to share with family and friends. My visit there was a highlight of my Sicily adventure.

What an amazing experience! My husband and I love this place, not just for the atmosphere, the wine, the staff, but for the love and passion the owners have worked so hard for to make this a memorable vacation.

After our experience, we must say we were quite surprised by all the positive reviews of this winery. My partner was very excited when he found the winery on google maps, but we ultimately left the experience very disappointed. The man who led the tour and tasting (I believe the manager) was very rude to us. He gave us a short tour and told us nothing about the history of the winery and very little about the wines produced. Even during the tasting when we asked about the wine he would not answer us. It was bizarre like he was turning his ears off when we spoke. He was very eager though to talk to the other couple, giving them a lengthy tasting. At one point he even sat at the table with them and poured himself a glass of wine to drink with them, completely ignoring us. While we paid to do a five wine tasting he treated us as if we were unworthy of his time. Since we did not get to try the wine we requested to try, my partner decided to buy a bottle to take home. While I thought it was generous enough for him to buy wine given how the staff treated us, he still seemed to scoff at us for not buying enough. For the amount of money the experience costs, I would recommend touring a more inclusive winery.
