Metaponto

The tour begins with the visit of the National Archeological Museum ofMetaponto where you will discover the history of the city. Then, you will visit the Archeological Park of Apollonio Licio with its urban sanctuary, part of the Agorà and the main North-South axis (Plateia). After, you will move to the Tavole Palatine, the Doric temple buit by Acheans in the 630 b.C. The temple was called also “school of Phytagoras” in memory of the great philosopher and of his school. The tour ends with the archeological site of Pantanello. This area has acquired a great anthropological value after an excavation campaign carried out by the University of Texas in 1974. During the archeological excavations, an incredible variety of remains were found in a state of exceptional conservation.
