Mario was great! He provided interesting info on the ride to Vesuvius from Pompeii. When we were hiking, he acknowledged all ages and fitness levels. The pace was perfect. On the mountain, he continued to point out fascinating volcanic formations. The hike was a highlight of my time in Pompeii.

Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a standalone Vesuvius trip. My brother and I (both in our 20s) both thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip. 8 of us in the group in total, Mario our guide was enthusiastic and engaging during the whole journey - from history and events in the minibus, to answering questions during the walk. We left promptly at 2.30, the trip in the minibus to the top car park took about 35mins. Beware- the walk up to the crater is very steep in places and takes about 35minutes! Adequate shoes/trainers required as the terrain is dusty and loose pebbles. I thought I was moderately fit: better have a rethink! That being said at no point did I feel rushed, we were able to climb at our own pace. At the top another local guide Stefano gave some more detail on the volcano and it’s activity, before we continued round the crater with Mario. There was plenty of time for photographs and a chance to visit the shop at the end. Even the walk back down was pleasant, more time to chat about all things Naples and Pompeii! I’d recommend going in the afternoon as you’ll avoid the midday heat and get some lovely views of the sun later on. Tldr: excellent guided trip! steep climb but well worth the views from the top and to say that you’ve looked in the crater of a volcano!

Excellent arrangements. Staff from Askos Tours were easily visible at the meeting place and gave good advice / instructions beforehand. There was a 30 minute drive to the car park on Vesuvius, then a 25 minute uphill walk. The guide, Mario, was very good and kept an eye on everyone to make sure they were keeping up. He was happy for people to stop for a breather. My only slight disappointment was that the expert, who met us at the upper entrance, was only with us for about 5 minutes. Mario kept pointing out the rather hazy views from the top, but I wanted to focus on the crater. There are several shops on the route, selling drinks and souvenirs. Overall, a fantastic experience with wonderful views of the volcano.

Great tour with a guide that had a lot of knowledge of the mountain and its history. The guide made sure that everyone had a pleasant day. It was everything I was hoping for. Worth every penny!

We went hiking with tour guide Mario, and it was wonderful. Mario was very knowledgeable and pleasant conversation while we drove up there and hiked up as well.

I would recommend taking a tour but not sure this tour is the one. First off when you have 13 people not all of them are going to go the same speed. How about stopping half way and letting people take pictures while others catchup? Tour was quick and hurried. After the tour they took us to a souvenir shop where some guy tried harassing everyone into buying stuff. He gave speeches on how he made his limoncello. I swear we were at that shop longer than Vesuvius. Not sure if every tour goes there or it was a buddy of the guide or driver but it was total BS. Once again, I would take a chance in a tour b/c it looked like a cluster for others trying to park and get into park. The tours go straight to the front. The drive looked a little tedious as well so let others do the driving. That is only reason for 2 stars. Try another tour.

excellent excursion, Mario explained everything very well, very friendly, I just loved it. Vesuvius is fantastic and we have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples
