Our tour will start observing the cathedral apse - the most ancient section of the whole church, where architectural elements and superb stained glasses forge intricate decorations - and the facade. Immediately after, we’ll climb approximately 200 steps to reach a breath-taking roof terrace of about 8,000 square meters. There, you’ll be able to admire 135 spires, pinnacles, flying buttresses and many statues. It is almost impossible to believe it, but the Duomo features about 3,400 statues! Designed and carved throughout the centuries, they portray a vast range of biblical and historical figures, gargoyles, animals, little monsters, dragons, faces, and puzzling silhouettes. And if you think that the Duomo is now complete, you’re wrong! New statues have been carved and installed in recent times to represent the city’s contemporary history.

This was a really breathtaking tour and experience. The tour guide was very experienced and had a lot of historic facts to hand. Even though her default presentation of the facts was rather detailed she was also able to answer all question with more historic facts. I was truly very impressed. We were in Milan for the day and we couldn’t have picked a better tour/tour guide. Highly recommended.

We went on this tour today with the wonderful Sylva, it was really well done, Sylva was interesting and pleasant to listen to and had the whole group enthralled the entire time. No one was rushed and any questions put to her were answered. I’d happily recommend anyone to do this tour and if you can get Sylva as your guide all the better.

Read the tour description carefully. I wanted a ticket to the inside of the duomo and an audio tour. When I realized I bought much more than this I tried to change it only to find cancellation or changes not permitted. I did not get an audio guide and that would have cost 8 euro more on site. I had a ticket to the lift for the rooftop. Note that there are still stairs to climb once you get on top and the ticket does not include a ride down! I never made it to the museum. For me that was too much to do in one day. Having said all this the duomo is beautiful and worth seeing. Go early. There were no crowds when I arrived not more and more people arrive throughout the day. Definitely get the ticket before you go. Otherwise you’ll have to wait in two lines.

This is an absolute must see when visiting Milan, but please plan ahead and book directly on the Duomo site to skip the line and get the lift access to the terraces. We were able to get a discount with our credit card so check if they have any special offers. There are also guided tours with groups that can get you lift access and skip the line, but we didn't need to hear all of the details this time around; just wanted to admire the beauty. Absolutely amazing views in all directions! I haven't been here for over 20 years but I remember the beautiful flying buttresses and spires. It was well worth the extra money to skip the even longer line for regular entry and my knees and quads were grateful for the lift access to the terraces on the way up (still have to walk down). The cathedral was packed when we entered mid-day so try to visit either early morning or later in the day.

Eddie was a great guide! Funny and informative! Highly recommend doing a guide for the Duomo, there is so much to see and learn. The rooftop is amazing, even though it was hazy, being able to stand high above the city was spectacular. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
