May appear daunting but my word it is a treasure trove of wonderful statues, frescoes etcetra many from Pompeii -- especially love the portrait of the baker and his wife -- and even the naughty room....exhibits judged pornographic by the Bourbon ruler at the time and yes some are rather shall we say in your face but they are of their time and all in all nothing to get upset about. Beautifully presented, maybe lacking in staff around the museum to guide you better but then it is nice to wander and come upon unexpected diamonds...not literally of course!!!

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the archeological and historic history of Italy and Ancient Rome and Pompeii. He seemed very much in love with his subjects. We were fascinated

If you are interested in the archaeology of the area, this museum is an absolute must. The presentation of an outstanding area of artefacts, mosaics, statues and frescoes is brilliantly done and the information about each piece lets you place it fully in context of its original location and discovery. If visiting Pompeii or Herculaneum, coming here before or after you go will truly increase your appreciation of the artistry, magnificence and craftsmanship of the earlier inhabitants of campania. It also has a good cafe for when you need to sit and rest. Plus there is an AV show that shows what Pompeii looked like pre-eruption that manages not to be cheesy at all. Well worth a visit.

This museum is full of treasures and a must visit if in Naples. We particularly enjoyed the mosaics (E1.50 extra) and the adults only pictures and sculptures. However, this museum is HUGE. It is far too big to see in one day and at the point where we gave up it took us 10 minutes just to walk back to the entrance. It is a great pity they do not offer week tickets for the same price, as it would be much better to see a bit each day over two or three days, or it is just overwhelming. When you visit read it up in your guide book, decide which parts particularly interest you and concentrate on those.

Fascinating tour from our guide, Salavtore, which we shared with another couple - for a tour in English Great, specialist knowledge of the museum artefacts - and where to go; better than any audio guide. Grazie mille.

Visited the museum during the morning before going on a tour of the Naples underground in the evening. This is an amazing museum with so much representation of the early days of Italy up to current day. The museum is very beautiful but the area that it sits in is not very well maintained as far as cleanliness. There are many rooms with artifacts from across the history of Italy. We spent about three to four hours in the museum, but it felt like it was shorter. Don't bother with the audio headsets. We rented them and maybe used them twice.

Arrived to fill in morning before we were leaving on a tour to Amalfi the next day. So surprised and impressed. Absolutely incredible collection. Really enjoyed the time we spent here.

Visited the museum from our base in Sorrento. Went from Sorrento Train Station on the Campagna Express to Garibaldi and from there caught the tube to Museo on Linear 1. It’s very simple as the Museum is right next door to the Station! The tickets are cheap and it far out ways getting a taxi from the train station , which is very, very busy. The Museum is a beautiful building and houses many rooms filled with artefacts from Pompei, Herculaneum, and other historical locations. Three hours flew by as you become transfixed by the stunning quality of the exhibits. If you have visited Pompei & Herculaneum then this is a must see location. Great value for money and a wonderful day out.

The Mann is a really super museum and a "must-do" if you visit Naples. The building, entrances, stairways, lifts, cafeteria, bookshop are all very good, spacious, airy and a joy to experience. Starting at the second floor and using the lift we spent 4 hours walking around taking in the many many exhibits whish are excellently displayed. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. Entrance is free on the first Sunday of the month. The museum's website works well and seems accurate/upto date.

The museum is an outstanding collection of Roman and other ancient artifacts in general and of the Pompei/Herculaneum area in specific. This is an important point to consider when visiting those two sites. I went to Pompei several years ago and I was totally impressed. When I went this time, I was underwhelmed because a lot of the best stuff had been removed to the museum. While this makes total sense from preservation perspective I was a little disappointed. When I went to the museum, I didn't give it the attention it deserved thinking that the best stuff would come on the sites. My advice is to not see one without keeping the other in mind and to spend time in both to get the full complementary experience. That said, the museum is organized into several wonderful collections. GO AND PLAN SOME TIME TO DO IT. t will add tremendously to the experience of Pompei and Herculaneum.
