Tempio di Hera II

The Temple of Hera II in Paestum (formerly Poseidonia), is earlier and is still often referred to as the 'Temple of Poseidon' or 'Temple of Neptunus' due to a misidentification. This temple is the more northern and recent of the two Hera temples in Paestum.

Temple of Athena

The Temple of Athena, also known as the Temple of Ceres (c. 500 BC), is a Greek temple located in Paestum, situated near the so-called Basilica, which is considerably larger than it.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Paestum

Explore the captivating National Archaeological Museum, home to a rich collection of local Greek artworks dating back to the 7th century BC. The unquestionable highlights of the museum in Paestum are the frescoes found in the 'Tomb of the Diver' and the red-figure Krater of Asteas.

We had an amazing time touring the site of Paestum with our archaeologist guide, Ivan. He brought the site to life with his wealth of information and warm personality. And because he has actually worked on the site and made archaeological discoveries the experience was made that much richer from his first hand stories.

This tour was outstanding. Our guide was Mario and he was definitely one of the best tour guides I have ever had. So often on group tours like this, the guide is knowledgable, but does not know how to get that knowledge across in an engaging way. Mario was the opposite of that. He was certainly extremely knowledgable, but was also a captivating ( and sometimes amusing) storyteller. His stories included not just the facts about the temples, but also about the archaeology of the site, and the myths and legends associated with it. He managed to make connections across the ages so you learned not just about the site during the period when the temples were built, but also through Roman times and into the present. Often on tours like this, I will wander off a bit and take some photos. I never did that with Mario. Simply didn't want to miss a word he said. And the site itself? Mind blowing!! You will rarely see such well-preserved ruins. If I am Campania again I will definitely be using Askos Tours!

FABULOUS! we stayed at Tenuta dei marigolda [spelling error im sure ]. Beautiful, I mean Beautiful, very small boutique hotel, very affordable, GREAT olive and cheese! And, the little town, 10 minute walk from archeologist Park, charming! Dinner restaurants open at 7pm ish, and the one we ate at, with fab meats displayed, called Antichemura, specialty venison, rabbit, steaks, Buffalo, pasta, and WINES! It's a definite! Askos tours, we had a small group of 8, OUT OF THIS WORLD! Guide, very knowledgeable and we grateful. Tours come by the bus load, we definitely recommend small group tour! And see the museum at end of tour. Our pics are amazing, and a one in a lifetime experience!

Mario is an excellent guide and teacher. He made us feel like colleagues and you could feel his pride and passion for his area of expertise. I learned much about the area’s rich culture and history.

What a great tour. We had some difficulty finding the starting location and he reached out to assist. Mario provided a clear explanation and informative explanation of the history of the site. We were extremely excited and lucky that the museum had just reopened after a long renovation. Mario made sure we saw “the diver” which is an important relic.
