Pisa

We typically stop in Pisa first, when the Field of Miracles is empty. Going to Pisa at the beginning of the day also serves to avoid rush hour traffic entering Florence. On Pisa’s “Campo dei Miracoli” you will find not only the world’s most famous bell tower but also the cathedral, baptistery and cemetery, which are all remarkable monuments. We usually budget about 45 minutes in Pisa. There is time to climb the Leaning Tower; it only takes 15 minutes. We can pre-book tickets for you. Prizes will be given for the most creative shots of your group “holding up” the Leaning Tower!

Florence

Our kid-friendly itinerary covers the history of Florence and its most important monuments. Children will learn about architecture from Medieval towers to Renaissance Palaces in a fun, hands-on way. We know hungry kids (also parents) can be grumpy tourists, so we'll stop for a slice of pizza and a drink, and then later for gelato (ice cream) to keep everybody going. After the walking tour you'll have a little free time before we head back to port.

We were picked up right off our cruise ship, very nice. We went off directly out to Pisa. We somehow thought we had tickets to walk up the tower, but this is not included, so do not expect this. Those tickets need to be purchased ahead of time and are separate. We spent only 20 minutes or so in Pisa. Our driver was knowledgeable, and certainly pleasant, but a little quiet. We are big talkers, so perhaps a more loquacious driver would have been a better fit. We met up with our tour guide in Florence, and from the moment we met, we were off to the races. She was darting in between all the crowds and despite being on the younger side and fit, we both had a hard time keeping up! That was the general feeling of the entire tour of Florence; she was in a hurry. We didn't feel like we could really stop and look at anything that caught our eye. We did have tickets for the Academy at a specific time, but as it was we had to wait to actually get in. Looking back, we don't have many photos of Florence because we didn't have time to take any until our tour was over. Once it was over, we did have an hour of free time where we walked among the streets and we enjoyed the slower pace. Our driver met us and returned us directly to the ship. On the way, we were able to take pictures with views of the city from the mountains. As for eating: we had gelato about 1/2 hour into the tour so we could use a rest room. With an over hour drive first thing in the morning, not sure why it was a surprise we would need to use a restroom. We had a slice of pizza bought waiting for our time at the Academy. No seating, so we sat outside on a bench in the sun. The guide received a pastry from the restaurant, and she ate this later in the tour. We didn't use the rest room again until we were back on our ship. A nice but average day, especially for the price.

Our driver Alessandro was amazing. We enjoyed an amazing day touring Pisa and Florence. Our driver kept our four teens entertained and captivated with his stories and knowledge of the region. He was super positive, fun and spoke excellent English. He had great recommendations for food and drink and knew the best places for photos. Our last stop was at a beautiful winery in Tuscany on the way back to port. A truly memorable day and we look forward to our next visit and will definitely contact Papillon again!

Amazing driver/ guide! We had a fantastic day going to Florence and Pisa, I would definitely recommend this service!! Dropped off at the foot of Pisa and the foot of the Doma in Florence… very knowledgeable and punctual.
