Of ancient origins, certainly before the first century BC, as evidenced by the dice-shaped capitals and the tuff impluvium, the house was purchased at the beginning of the first century by a rich family of freedmen, dedicated to trade, the Vettii, of which two rings were found, which also acted as a seal and several election posters: it was in this period, thanks to the excellent economic possibilities of the family, that the structure was totally restored and enriched with works of art, mostly in fourth style. A second restructuring was necessary following the Pompeii earthquake of 62; buried under a blanket of ashes and lapilli due to the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, it was brought to light in 1894. In December 2016, after a twelve-year restoration, the house was reopened to the public.

Never got our tour. Bus was supposed to pick us up at our hotel - which we confirmed by telephone the night before and morning of tour. 20 minutes before the pickup time the hotel desk told us the tour called and to wait outside - which we did. Then. The hotel clerk very Mrs out to tell s the tour called to say we needed to be several blocks away - so off we went. We called the company to confirm the location and they gave us new directions. N bus there so we called tour again and gave them our cell numbers - which the had. The bus was supposed to call us but never did. Now 20 minutes late we called the tour company and no one answered - three attempts and no answer. We have two other tours scheduled with the company and are thinking about cancelling. Getting to Pompeii is easy on the metro - which we did. If you want an English tour it’s available at the ticket office - or get the audio .tour. Needless to say we will be asking for our money back and if that doesn’t work we will challenge the charge on our Visa. Very disappointed in the company.

The guide was great. I would recommend people bring their own headphones. If I were a tour company I would double the prices to reduce crowds to make the experience better.

I liked being picked up from my hotel. Guide was knowledgeable and I learned a lot. Pompei was bigger than I expected and I discovered that the city was planned on a grid. It had not grown randomly. Instructions on how long we had to spend and where to meet were clear. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I would recommend it.

Tour itself was fabulous and run perfectly. 2 hours inside was a great length and information was constant! Download WhatsApp and register using the phone number that you give for communication! Communication beforehand could use work. We selected "hotel pickup" and put in our hotel. A few days before, the tour operator had not confirmed the date and time, so I reached out via the Viator communication feature and did not get a response. The night before we were worried, so we called the tour operator directly who confirmed our hotel and 10am. After reading some reviews with confusion about all of this, we remained worried so a travel companion recommended down loading WhatsApp, as other tours had communicated with her that way on another trip. Sure enough, about an hour before the tour, we heard from the company through WhatsApp, asking to confirm that i had received messages from them - our pickup hotel was actually a 5 minute walk, and the time was a little different too. Apparently they had been reaching out to me via WhatsApp for a while attempting to communicate pickup info. As I said at the start, tour was fabulous, well-organized, and the perfect length. Guides were friendly and clear.
