Your Itinerary

Orvieto

Orvieto, a city with a historical and artistic heritage, in some respects, unique in its kind in Umbria. A "museum" city that has lived through various historical periods, some of which have been great protagonists: in particular in the Etruscan and medieval era, representing a center of considerable historical and cultural importance for all of Italy. A city of art with almost three thousand years of history that will conquer and fascinate.

Pozzo di San Patrizio

The historic well of San Patrizio is a structure built by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger in Orvieto between 1527 and 1537 at the behest of Pope Clement VII, a veteran of the Sack of Rome and eager to protect himself in the event that the city in which he withdrawn was besieged. Therefore it was designed precisely to provide water in the event of a disaster or siege.

Necropoli Etrusca Di Crocifisso Del Tufo

The Etruscan necropolis of the “Crocifisso del Tufo“, together with the site with the remains of the Etruscan temple of Belvedere, is one of the greatest testimonies, still visible today, of the Etruscan civilization which for many centuries has settled in Orvieto. This necropolis (literally "city of the dead") is located just below the tufaceous cliff and winds along a path in the greenery from where various Etruscan tombs emerge with a characteristic rectangular shape and a very linear and orderly structure that has the features of a real city.

Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo represents the secular and episcopal center of Todi, in the province of Perugia, and hosts one of the most interesting medieval complexes in Italy. Around it there are the main city monuments that testify to the city powers of the era of the Free Municipalities. On the one hand, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, a symbol of ecclesiastical power; and from the others the public buildings, seat of the civic powers: the Palazzo dei Priori, the Palazzo del Capitano and the Palazzo del Popolo.

Duomo di Orvieto

The Cathedral of Orvieto, one of the greatest artistic achievements of the Italian late Middle Ages, constitutes a unicum that escapes any simplistic classification of style. Inside it is possible to admire the beauty of the chapel of San Brizio, or chapel Nova, completed by Luca Signorelli.

Chiesa di San Fortunato

The interior has three naves of equal height, according to the Hallenkirche typology, each with an entrance from the facade and doors embellished with historiated bas-reliefs depicting saints, biblical prophets and floristic ornaments (the vine to represent good, the fig to represent Evil). From the two naves there are 13 chapels adorned with frescoes and statues, among which the fresco of the Madonna with Child and two angels by Masolino da Panicale, located in the fourth chapel, stands out.

Todi Underground

Under the streets and houses of Todi, hidden in the shadows, there is another city, dug underground. The underground Todi is made up of cavities of all types and sizes made by man over the centuries and which today can be partially visited. Over 3 km of tunnels and galleries, dozens of pre-Roman, Roman and medieval cisterns, hundreds of wells from various eras, as well as a hardly quantifiable number of cellars and other types of underground, form the rich underground heritage of the city.
