Your Itinerary

Piazza San Marco

The true heart of Venice, which Napoleon called “the most elegant drawing-room in Europe”. The main attracion are the imposing Palazzo Ducale, the Golden Basilica and the Bell-tower!

Doge's Palace

(Pass by)

The Palazzo Ducale, the centre of Venetian power, residence of the doge and home to the judiciary, this is where the governance of the city took place. Visually, it is the perfect example of Venetian gothic architecture, as Ruskin put it: the perfect fusion of East and West.

Basilica di San Marco

(Pass by)

The Basilica of San Marco is Venice’s jewel in the crown. The cathedral evokes the blending of East and West that is at the heart of Venetian character. More oriental than European, the architecture, the decoration and the atmosphere of ancient sanctity span both the centuries and the styles of Mediterranean civilisation

Ponte dei Sospiri

(Pass by)

In 1600, therefore, a bridge had to be built to connect the Doge’s Palace and the Prisons: the Ponte dei Sospiri, the Bridge of Sighs. Allegedly, the newly-judged convicts walking to their darkened cell, would look out from the window-gaps to the lagoon for one last time and sigh.

Ponte di Rialto

(Pass by)

The Rialto Bridge, the first urban centre of Venice. It comes from the latin “rivus altus”, deep canal, referring to the Grand Canal. By unifying the two parts of the city on either side of the Grand Canal in a single arch movement, the Rialto Bridge has become the symbol of Venice’s unity and uniqueness

Gallerie dell'Accademia

(Pass by)

Founded in 1750, the Academy of Fine Arts was once the place where young aspiring artists learned painting, sculture and architecture. the Accademia art gallery became a true stronghold for the preservation of many paintings in the city. Moreover, a decision was taken to privilege those works by Venetian painters from 1300 to 1700

The self guided tour failed to load. I was supposed to find a kiosk to get it uploaded in the most confusing and overwhelming square in Northern Italy. I want a refund.

This is not what it seems. You are paying for a map and a pop up app that is a tour guide, not a trip on the canal. I may have misread the details but if I did it’s because they weren’t clear enough.

Bottom line: You are paying $10 for an app, and do not gain any additional access to the Basilica, Bell Tower, or Doge Palace. My wife and I had a hard time finding the kiosk to get the gear - it is located just outside of San Marco plaza by the museum entrance. We were handed a map and a QR code to download the app, expecting to get tickets to see the Basilica. We personally don't think it was worth the money for the app, and thought we would be getting into some attractions by getting this based off of the voucher from our travel agent.

Very useful and enjoyable app to discover Venice and its historical center by your own one. I decided to discover the city by night and it was a great idea. it was full of magic and the storytelling was superb.

The tour wouldn’t download so was totally unusable. There is also no simple way to request a refund in this circumstance.

Bravi
