I strongly recommend this tour to those that love wine and good food. Our guide Stefano took us to two very interesting wineries in Leveranto and Manduria. At Leveranto we visited the Conti Zecca winery that produces excellent red and white wines. Our hostess Giulia was very nice and attentive showing the winery facilities and explaining to us all the steps of wine production. We tasted three excellent wines including one with the negroamaro grape that is typical of this region. Afterwards, we went to Manduria and had a delicious lunch at the Messapica trattoria where the kind owner named Angelo prepared a meal with many different typical dishes of this region. Finally, we visited a winery in Manduria that is formed by the association of farmers (cooperativa). It has a very interesting museum that was showed to us by the hostess Catia that told us the cooperative’s history as well as many details about the formerly way of life of the farmers. Then, we tasted three delicious wines made with the emblematic primitivo grape that is typical of Manduria. We are very grateful to Stefano that allowed us to have this wonderful experience in Puglia.

The drive to the two vineyards through the countryside was made interesting by Stefano. Puglia is quite flat so his commentary was welcome. Productori do Manduria and Conti Zecca had excellent wines and the stop for lunch @ Trattoria Messapica was great.

We spent a wonderful day with Stefano learning about the people, food and wine of the area where he grew up! From the moment he greeted us at our hotel to the minute he dropped us off Stefano patiently and enthusiastically answered our questions about Italy in general, Puglia and the Lecce area while engaging us with questions of his own about where we were from and what we liked about our travels in Italy. We were introduced to two fabulous wineries in addition to being treated to lunch featuring the foods of Salento. An amazing day in a beautiful part of Puglia.
