Our tour guide (Linda) absolutely made this tour! She was very enthusiastic about explaining the history of the mafia and helping us to understand the reality of it all. We were a small group (4 of us tourists) which made it even more special since we could easily ask questions and get to know each other. Corleone felt like a unique place and I would highly recommend visiting there. Although the bus ride there was bumpy and winding, the views and museum in Corleone were well worth the journey. I'll be telling my friends all about this tour and would encourage those interested in the subject and Sicilian history to go. It was one of the highlights of our trip.
Can’t say enough about this great tour. Very different because you take a city bus from Palermo to Corleone with the guide. Our guide ,Veronica, was very knowledgeable, friendly and a joy to spread the day with. She guided us around Corleone with excellent descriptions and explanations of the real Mafia. We visited a confiscated prior Mafia owned home that is now an educational center that features very moving art about the anti- Mafia movement. During the walk we also went to a beautiful waterfall area, such a surprise right in town. We finished the afternoon with a delicious lunch at another Mafia confiscated home that is now a restaurant- home cooked food from Mafia confiscated fields. Very memorable and different tour- highly recommended- fabulous job Veronica!!!
Eduardo was an amazing tour guide. He has deep knowledge of Sicily and mafia history and was very willing to answer all of our questions. We had a very pleasant walking tour of Corleone; he helped us with transport from Palermo also. Would highly recommend this tour; very pleasant and provides great added information about Sicily.
This was one of the best tours my wife and I have ever taken. Our tour guide Stefano was passionate and very informative. He did an amazing job and we wish we could have spent more than one day with him learning about the Sicilian people, the horrible actions of the Mafia and the resistant movement that has been going on almost as long as the existents of the Mafia. I booked this tour online communicating with Francesca at Addiopizzo via email. Francesca was extremely helpful in arranging this tour for us. We were staying in Palermo without a car and she offered up several options to get us to Corleone for this tour. We opted to take the bus from Palermo which was only € 8,50/per person roundtrip. Luck would have it our guide Stefano was from Palermo and he met us at the bus pick-up point and made sure we got on the correct bus and off at the correct stop. Stefano was beyond anything we expected from a guide. He is very captivating and extremely knowledgeable. From the moment we met him he began giving us his story and the story of the Sicilian people and their dealings with the Mafia. When we arrived in Corleone, Stefano took us to a nearby park and began telling the history of the Mafia in Sicily, details about how the Mafia came to power and those who were the first pioneers to resist the control of the Mafia. The people who resisted the Mafia were very brave people most of whom gave their lives trying to help fight the Mafia and protect the people. The tour then proceeded to the “Laboratory of Legality”. This was once the house of Bernardo Provenzano, one of the biggest and most feared mob bosses of all time. Bernardo's brother only lives a few houses away from the museum, so you can imagine how uncomfortable it must be for his brother and the anti-mafia group to operate in such close proximity. The house is now a museum/gallery with painting from the artist Gaetano Porcasi on display. His paintings depict the tragedy and the history of the anti-mafia movement over the years and is a great way to see how really tragic it has been for the people of Sicily. I highly recommend this tour if you want to get a better understanding of what the Mafia really was and is today. Don't expect it to be portrayed as it is in the movies, it is far from that and much more tragic and not at all romantic.
